Top Five Must-Try Foods In Bangkok

I don't think I need to say more. Everyone knows that Thailand is a food paradise. In particular, Bangkok is known for its street food culture. When I was in Bangkok, we had a good mix of restaurant, cafe and street food. Everything was yummy. Today's post is a compilation of the best food places I visited with my friends. For those who have no idea where to go at all, this can be a good guide for you.

1. Phad Thai
Khao San Night Market

When in Bangkok, you have to try phad thai no matter what. Many places serve decent phad thai but I really like the ones cooked by street vendors at Khao San Night Market. Cheap and good! :)

2. Authentic Thai Cuisine
Nara Thai Cuisine, Central World 7th Floor, Beacon Zone

We had lunch at a very nicely-furnished restaurant in Central World. It was not a cheap lunch by Bangkok standard (We paid more than $20/pax), but the food was very good!

We tried many of the dishes, and loved almost all of it. The tom yam prawns, pandan chicken, prawn paste chicken and fried rice with thai herbs were especially good!

Thai Iced milk tea is a must-drink in Bangkok. I drank at least 2 to 3 cups a day!

3. Tom Yam Glass Noodles
Somewhere along the streets near Novotel Hotel

One morning, we woke up earlier than our friends and went out looking for breakfast when we saw this Auntie selling noodles on the streets. Seeing that her customers were all locals, we knew it should be something good.

These street vendors' setup are usually simple. For this Auntie, she had a pot with water boiling on a mini stove which she cooked the noodles and ingredients in. In a separate pot, she put in the seasonings such as sugar, salt, chilli, lime juice etc. Once the noodles and ingredients (prawns, squids, chicken, fishcakes) were cooked, they were mixed with the seasonings and that's it.

Our breakfast was so awesome that morning. It was seafood tom yam maggie noodles and glass noodles.

Tasted so good.

4. Coconut Ice-cream
Chatuchak Weekend Market

This was so good it deserved a category all by itself. The ice-cream was full of coconut goodness - Can totally taste that it was made from real coconut flesh. The ice-cream's served with strips of coconut flesh in a coconut husk, and you can choose different toppings to go with it. What a great dessert in the hot weather!

See the lovely toppings available? I opted for nata de coco and mango strips. Such a happy food!

It was also topped with some crispy banana chips! Yums. =D

When at Chatuchak, you should also buy a bottle of coconut juice - The vendor told us that no preservatives, sugar or water was added. It was pure coconut juice. It was very refreshing and sweet! A must-try when in BKK!

5. Chatuchak Wanton Mee
Chatuchak Weekend Market 2 Soi 40

You should absolutely try the wanton mee at Chatuchak Weekend Market - It's so good that many of my friends told me they ate 4 to 6 bowls each. My hubby ate 3, and he was still raving about it after it. Even Jayne finished one bowl all by herself!

The stall's really small so don't expect to be able to eat in comfort. But what made up for the lack of comfort was the people who were really nice and helpful - We were found seats very quickly and our food was served within 3 minutes.

I had the dry noodles and loved it. The noodles were very 'Q', and the wantons tasted good. It was especially good with chilli powder. The soup version was very good too of course. Try both when you are there!
