Hippopotamus Reveals Revamped Menu!

Media Invite

The husband and I hopped down to Hippopotamus during lunch time last week to try out their newly revamped menu. Joey was with us as it was the school holidays and she was gallivanting hanging out at our office. It was really nice to be able to have a relaxing meal with only one kid - There’s no bickering or playing noises, and we get quality one-to-one time with our girl.

In its continuous quest to create a truly wholesome and value-for-money dining experience, Hippopotamus has upped its game again in the premium beef cuts selection, keeping to the restaurant’s promise of providing grilled beef at great price points. The restaurant has carved out its new hearty menu with a fresh, revamped look, including a selection of more than 10 newly added menu items. The husband is a big fan of good steaks, and we were excited to try the new menu items.

We were served a few appetizers along with breads and butter.

The French Onion soup was delicious with chewable cheese and a round piece of bread drenched in the soup. I believe the bread had been fried before it was dropped into the soup – It definitely made the soup more fragrant and added more texture to the taste. Joey and I loved it.

The next appetizer served was the Salmon & Shrimp Salad ($14.90), which was fresh and refreshing.

The salsa definitely whet our appetite for the main courses to come. Pretty colors too, of course. :)

This next appetizer can be described as hearty and fulfilling. The Poached Egg with Red  Wine ($6.50) comprises of soft egg yolks infused with a special tangy wine sauce that delivers bangs of flavour. The bacon strips are LOVE! So crispy and flavorful, we like it so much. :)

We chose a steak and a burger for our main courses. The husband enjoyed the 200g Wagyu Flank Steak ($31), which was a special cut that comes from the delicate belly of the Wagyu cow. You can also choose from a variety of sauces on the side to enjoy your steak with, and two sides as well. I like the slightly smoked & charred taste of the meat, that made it very fragrant.

The Hippo 5th Avenue Burger ($17.90) was a hearty combination of thick juicy beef patty stacked with a generous serving of crusty bacon, sautéed onions and fresh vegetables. For sides, we opted for good’ ole french fries and sauteed mushrooms. It was so yummy!

To end off our meal, we were served two desserts. The Strawberry Cheesecake ($8.90) was topped with fresh strawberries with crunchy cookie crumble as its base. It’s light, sweet and refreshing.

Comparatively though, I prefer the French Toast Nutella better. Love the warm toast drenched with Nutella and topped with a scoop of Vanilla ice-cream and almond slices. Absolutely GOOD!
