“Excuse Me, Are You A Model?”

Media Invite

I have very typical girls at home. They cannot get enough of all things pretty and pink – dresses, shoes, bags, accessories, cosmetics, nail polish, etc. When we are just hanging out at home, they randomly put up their own fashion show with a runway that goes from their bedroom to the living room. Mostly, they pull out anything from their closet and try to put together a look that they like, then parade in them with the biggest smirk on their faces. I like their self-confidence – I think it’s important and great for kids of their age.

So when Dream Factory by Ines Ligron approached me about sending them to a ‘modeling class’ called Dream Kids, I didn’t hesitate one bit - It sounded like a class tailor-made for them! The two-hour class would train the kids to do catwalk and instill confidence in them in the process. While the kids would most likely not turn into child models eventually, the main purpose of the class is to help the kids learn about styling, building confidence and having fun on the runway.

I love the place immediately when we arrived. Dream Factory by Ines Ligron is a retail shop selling beautiful clothes, and I love the high ceiling and loft feel of the whole space.

I especially love this runway! Fashion shows take place here occasionally, and the kids would be practicing their catwalk on this runway for the class. Love it!

I thought my girls would be overly enthusiastic about walking down the runway like real models, but I was so wrong. While they may be extremely confident in their fashion shows at home, they were both intimidated by this real runway. Both girls opted to watch by the side and refused to participate no matter how much I coaxed them! Now, if you are a blogger like me, you would know how much stress I was feeling by then - If my kids refused to participate, it would be meaningless for me to be there at all. Yet, I didn’t want to force them to do something they were not ready for. That, too, would be meaningless as well.

Thankfully, after they watched how the instructor (Miss Singapore 2011, by the way) taught the kids and how several of them walked down the runway confidently, they put their fears aside and agreed to give it a try. Phew! I was so worried that they would miss such a good opportunity to turn their dreams into reality, literally! They daydream and imagine so often that they are beautiful models doing catwalks down the runway, but if they get a chance to put all those imagination into practice, it would be perfect! I’m so glad that  my kids managed to join in the fun and had a very enjoyable session that day. To me, that was a journey of overcoming their fears and insecurities as well – Totally in line with the goal of the Dream Kids class.

The instructor taught the kids how to stand with a good posture, do poses and always have a smile on their faces. Then every kid practiced walking down the runway with music. Their first attempts were mostly unnatural and a little awkward, but every one of them got better and better with every try. I’m quite sure that all the parents felt really proud of their kids that day!

The girls’ first attempt walking down the runway. I absolutely think they have the flair for modeling– I’m not biased because the instructor said so too! =D

After the kids got the hang of walking down the runway, they were told to choose clothes from the table and change into them. Models need to show off pretty clothes, isn’t it? And while showing off the pretty clothes, they need to exude confidence and beauty.

And by now, the kids were totally warmed up and ready to rock the runway! What a transformation from merely an hour earlier! Love the confidence on their faces. :)

I did a short collage of their ‘fashion show’ – Amateur but they had lots of fun! =D

Thanks Dream Factory by Ines Ligron! The girls had lots of fun!
