We-Time Is The Most Important!

Sponsored Story

I admit it – I crave for and treasure my me-time very much. It’s the only way I can keep myself sane in the midst of a very busy and hectic life I live. While I still love the time I get to be on my own now, by and by, I am beginning to realize that time spent with my husband and kids as a family must be treasured as well. The truth is – My kids are growing up bit by bit everyday, and before I know it, they would be spending lesser and lesser time at home. They might be the ones who grumble that I have to work everyday and cannot be at home with them now, I know the tables will be turned in just a matter of years. By then, I can have all the me-time I want in the world - For now, I should appreciate and enjoy the we-time that we can have together while the kids still fancy it! This reminds me of OREO Cookie’s campaign - “Better Together”,which encourages greater family interaction by transforming “me-time” into “we-time”. I can totally identify with the Campaign – It is important to have quality family bonding time especially during the weekends, when I am usually occupied with my job during the weekdays.

My favorite type of weekends are those spent over at my parents’ house. I love big family gatherings because of how heartwarming and happy it feels to hang around with people who love you for who you are. That’s when I get to spend time with my parents, and the kids get to spend time with their grandparents as well. Joey, especially, loves to cook and bake with my mum! Weekends are just too short, and this is the most ingenious way to multiply the time we have and spend time with different groups of people all at the same time. =P

Quite frankly, for full-time working mums like me, the biggest challenge is finding the time and energy to engage the kids and spend quality time with them without any distractions. With the way our society is going right now, many people spend so much time on their gadgets and devices that quality family time is neglected. I am guilty of that too, but I want to consciously change that. The last thing I want is to let my kids feel that my gadgets are more interesting than them!

Two weekends ago, we spent a very relaxing weekend over at my parents’ place. Quality family time is so precious, especially when my dad’s health has not been too good in recent years. It was Father’s Day weekend, so we thought it would be fun to to do something with the kids, to keep them occupied as well as to make something yummy for everyone to enjoy while we watch movies together at home. With what I could find at home, we made this really simple but tummy-happy snack together – OREO COOKIE POPCORN! Both were my kids’ favorite snacks and a fusion of it was just ingenious. It’s so incredibly simple, I bet you will be trying to make some of them this weekend. =P

All you need is a pack of microwave popcorn, some chocolate candy melts (optional but helps in blending the cookies and popcorn together), around 10 OREO cookies, and your very own OREO popcorn will be ready in no time at all.

The kids couldn’t wait to help out and I am glad to let them do so. After all, the fun part is the time of preparation and making together! I put the OREO Cookies into a plastic bag and got Jayne to help me smash them as hard as she could. You bet she did a mighty good job. I got some really crushed OREO there.

Then, just pop the popcorn into the microwave (2 to 5 minutes depending on the power of your microwave). It was our first few popping instant popcorn!!! It was an exciting but nerve-wreaking experience. =X

It was so simple! Done in 3 minutes in our microwave, then poured into a big bowl. The crushed OREO cookies were then sprinkled over the popcorn with chocolate sauce over it. You can add anything you like to your popcorn creation actually, but the kids love OREO, so it was an obvious choice for us.

I love it when the whole family does something together - It’s fun, interesting and bonds everyone together. Quality family time should be one of the most important things in life, isn’t it? It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside when I think about what a loving family I have. :)

Speaking of OREO, do you know that they have embarked on their first-ever movie partnership with Paramount Pictures for the upcoming Michael Bay film “Transformers: Age of Extinction”? Check out their really cool-looking Transformers product packs! Even my girls who are not so familiar with Transformers got really excited with the free stickers found into the packs, and told me as a matter-of-fact that I NEED to bring them for the new Transformers movie coming up soon. =X
