Dilemma Of A Working Mummy

Frankly speaking, the role of a mummy & a career woman is in contradiction. Stay-At-Home-Mums get to spend quality time with their little ones, but miss out on the joy of working & contributing to the household income. Working mums, on the other hand, have to struggle constantly with managing work & their kids at the same time.

I've a colleague who has just started to bring his daughter to the office nursery. He has had so much problems with the previous nannies he engaged to take care of his daughter that he has decided to put her daughter in the office nursery instead. At least the caretakers are people he knows he can trust and he is in close proximity to his darling.

Leaving Joey in the office nursery has its pros and cons. The pros far outweighs the cons of course, like being able to pop over to see her as and when I like, being able to be around when she gets bullied, or fell down, or refused to drink her milk, giving her the opportunity to 'grow up' with other kids rather than playing all by herself, and of course, the really cheap fees. But putting your kid in an environment full of kids also increased her chances of falling sick when one of the kids is sick. The office nursery is air-conditioned, so the virus fly everywhere. You can't stop the kids from playing with each other too. It's one of the risks I constantly have to contend with.

I am at home today, cos Joey is a little unwell. She caught the flu virus from the many kids who're having flu in the nursery. Sigh... it's really a dilemma for me, because on one hand, I have to work, yet on the other hand, I'd have to bring her to the office if I want to go into office too. Today is still quite an ok day for me, so I chose to take childcare leave and stay at home with Joey, but tomorrow, i'd have to go into office no matter what. That means Joey will be going in too. Oh God, I pray for a hedge of protection over Joey against all the viruses! When my baby is sick, my whole life & schedule gets topsy turvy and alot of things I cannot do & complete on time!!

On a separate note, as I am blogging now, I am watching a babycare programme on Home & Health channel. The programme is showing how a pregnant lady made a body mould of her pregnant body so that she would have a memento to keep of her bulging stomach. For remembrance sake. Hmm.. I should have gone to do one of those things too when I was pregnant. Hee.. Interesting.
