The Worst 24 Hours Of My Life

Well, haven't been feeling that well the past few days ever since Joey was hospitalised. Woke up today with a splitting headache and felt like puking. Isaiah said I slept too much. Haha... Slept from 11pm last night all the way till 9am this morning. Well, still can't make up for the loss of sleep the past 2 days no matter how.

And so, Joey has high fever on Monday night, and you've heard the story, Isaiah happened to be awake from 3-4am on Tuesday morning and thank God for that, he was awake to witness Joey get into fits. Can't imagine what would have happened if she had fits while we were all asleep. Called for an ambulance and we went to KK Hospital.

It was a very weird feeling sitting in an ambulance. Was it my first time in an ambulance? I think so. So weird. So weird. The 2 paramedics sat silently, while I carried a silently-sleeping Joey. Once in a while, one of them would ask me a question about what happened. Surprisingly, I felt very calm and at ease. I thought I might cry, but I didn't. Joey was really sleeping very soundly. So soundly that I even tried to test for her breathing once. Ha.. The medic looked at me amused.

Nearing the hospital, Joey woke up and fell asleep again. She was so exhausted. When we reached the hospital, we took her temperature and she was 39.9 degrees! Wah... hottest day of her life, it seems. Thank God she fell asleep shortly after on the observation bed.

Doctor told us to get a urine sample so that he can test whether it's urinary tract infection. If it's not, he's happy to let us go home. But he also warned us that it may take up to 6 to 8 hours in some cases to get a urine sample. Frankly, when I heard that, I went, 'Chey... won't take so long wan lah...'

They attached a urine bag to Joey and we started on our wait.... Each time we checked her urine bag, there was nothing. And we realised that the urine all leaked out to her diaper already. To cut the story short, we only managed to get her urine sample later in the afternoon... 12 hours later?! Sigh...

And so, the doctor on the next shift (yes, we waited for her to urine for so long that the doctor who attended to us has gone home and a new doctor came along!) told us that he wants Joey to be admitted for blood test and observation. And so, here we are at her bed..

I must say my impression of KK Hospital has changed after this stay. They're really quite professional and fast. Staff are helpful and the rooms are quite nice too. I might consider giving birth to Number 2 here. :)

I know it's not appropriate to say this, but I thought Joey really thought Joey looks so cute in the hospital gown. :)

She slept alot during her stay. Every nap is at least 2 to 3 hours. This is good, cos she is recuperating.

It was challenging keeping Joey in her little bed when she is so used to walking around all the time in the house. Got to keep distracting her with cartoons on the TV and some storybooks we brought her. Sigh... that, to me, was the tougher than dealing with her fever! Feeding her medication was also tough, cos she would struggle with all her life! There was once when 2 nurses along with me and my mum had to pin her down while forcing the medication into her mouth. Sigh...

Some photos with Daddy!

I stayed over at the hospital with Joey that night, thinking that I can have a good sleep finally after no sleep for close to 20 hours. How wrong can I get??! The ward was a 4-bedder and all the kids including Joey took turns to cry throughout the night. I literally woke up every hour. Sigh.. really tiring.

The next day was much better though. Joey was feeling much better and more energised. She is sooooo 'I'. The moment we allowed her to walk around, she went to say hi to all the nurses and even went into other wards to 'talk' to the other kids. Most of the nurses and the people in other wards got to know her. Haha..

Take a look at some gifts she got...

I deliberately wanted to keep her hospitalisation low profile, cos didn't want to trouble anyone to visit, but still news got around. :) Thank you for all your prayers and well wishes.

The morning before she got discharged. Looks pretty well already ya? :)

My 24-hour ordeal ended. :)
