Baby Jayne Has….

CRADLE CRAP CAP.

You know, every kid is different. Despite being a second-time mum, there are still new things that surprise me when taking care of my baby.

Joey, for one, did not have cradle cap. She had a full head of lovely thick locks, but she did not have cradle cap problem. So this is the first time I’m dealing with this. I have decided not to show you a photo of Jayne’s scalp because it just looks hideously ugly.

Checked wiki and found this information:

Cradle Cap (infantile or neonatal seborrhoeic dermatitis, also known as crusta lactea, milk crust, honeycomb disease) is a yellowish, patchy, greasy, scaly and crusty skin rash that occurs on the scalp of recently born babies. It is usually not itchy, and does not bother the baby. Cradle cap most commonly begins sometime in the first 3 months. Similar symptoms in older children are more likely to be dandruff than cradle cap. The rash is often prominent around the ear, the eyebrows or the eyelids. It may appear in other locations as well, where it is called seborrhoeic dermatitis rather than cradle cap. Some countries use the term pityriasis capitis for cradle cap. It is extremely common, with about half of all babies affected. Most of them have a mild version of the disorder. Severe cradle cap is rare.

I do know that cradle cap is common, because I’ve heard it mentioned enough by other mums. One of my cell group members’ baby who is one month older than Jayne also had the problem previously. The mum even came to cell group meeting one night and told me matter-of-factly that she spent that afternoon peeling off all the flakes singlehandedly. *gulp*

Just so you know what cradle cap looks like, I googled and found this:

I assure you that Baby Jayne’s case is a lot less severe.

I’ve been applying baby lotion on her scalp hoping that the affected scalp skin will fall off in flakes. Thankfully, it seemed to be working, but exactly when it will totally go away, I’m not sure. Hopefully soon.

P/S: This morning I was suddenly amazed by the fact that Baby Jayne is not even 4 months old yet. Can you believe it?? It certainly felt like she’s been around for ages!
