Alright, to tell you the truth, I wasn't that interested to visit a dying tree in Botanic Gardens under the hot, scorching sun. But hubby really wanted to see it, so we brought the kids along. It took LOTS of motivation to get me out of the comfort of my home but thank God, I did. It was such a fun and relaxing outing with our girls. They brought their scooters along, and whisked here and there and everywhere, and what better place to do random whisking than the Botanic Gardens?
Always nice to be at Botanic Gardens because there's greenery everywhere. Good for the eyes, good for the soul.
The Tailpot Palm is an interesting tree species that flowers for the first and last time after 80 years of growth. It will die after all its flowers fall off. Many people are flocking to the Botanic Gardens just to catch a glimpse of this rare tree before it dies.
This is what the tree looks like.. Looks like a normal palm tree to me except that there are pretty yellow flowers at the top. We did the typical tourist thing - Went woooooo and ahhhhhh at the tree, took a gazillion shots that all look about the same, then hung around not knowing what else to do.
The girls were less enthusiastic about it though. We told them what a unique tree it was and all they said was , 'Oh ok.' and then continued on their scooting around.
After all, the highlight of the day for them was scooting around - So much open space everywhere!
There was a huge and old tree that stood nearby where the kids spent much of their time at. They walked along the thick roots and tried balancing on the thinner ones. Kids of every generation enjoy playing the same stuffs, it seems? I remember I enjoyed doing such things as a kid too.
It's always cute to see the young one following the elder one everywhere. :) It's so nice to have each other!
To think that such a tree brought so much fun to the little girls!
Check out these yellow flowers on the ground! It's the talipot palm's flowers that have fallen. Until all of its 24 million flowers have dropped off, it will come to the end of its life journey.
Eventually, we did settle down somewhere with our picnic mat and just enjoy the nice breeze and warm sunshine. Important to replenish fluids on such a hot day! Look how big the water tumbler is compared to Jayne. =P
And of course, how can we end off an outing without good food?? Our last stop was to have some snacks at Food For Thought. It was so nice to dine at the alfresco area just next to the playground. I love how relaxing it was!
Family outings are fun as always. :)
