2 Degree Ice Art

Some weeks back, we brought the kids to Singapore’s largest ice sculpture experience – 2 Degree Ice Art, and we had so much fun! Mainly because it was crazy cold inside – It was -15 degrees celsius and definitely our first time experiencing such a temperature. I heard that 20 prominent ice craving masters were invited from Harbin, China, to crave a variety of iconic world landmarks like, London’s Big Ben and Paris’ Eiffel Tower for this exhibition. Quite frankly, the artworks were very impressive.

The necessary dressing-up took place after tickets were purchased. The ticket price includes a complimentary pair of gloves and if you need to rent their winter jackets, you have to pay an additional $5. Otherwise, you can opt to bring along your own winter wear as well. DO NOT be overly ambitious and think that you can endure the cold in your usual outfit. Even with the winter coats, our faces and lips turned blue, I kid you not. And I thought frost started forming on my upper lips. Then again, it might be hallucination because I was too cold.

The world inside the ‘refrigerator’ was a totally different one from the one outside. From a bright, sunny and warm environment, we stepped into a freezing cold and rather peaceful place filled with amazing sculptures.

What thrilled every one of us was what waited for us at the other end of the exhibition hall – A mega three-slope slide! The narrower slides on the sides are for the usual sliding down and many kids were going up and down non-stop. I couldn’t resist it and went for the broad slide in the centre which required me to sit on a rubber float. I slid down at such a high speed and even bounced off the ground at some parts – So much fun! =D

Some of the kids were trying to make snowballs by the side. I guess this might be the only way many of us could get to play snow in Singapore.

The ice exhibition was interesting, but I say, do not leave the place without visiting the Ice Bar! This was a bar next to the exhibition area, maintained at –15 degree celsius as well, and all the tables and chairs were made of ice! Purchase a beer served in an ice mug, and you can literally chill inside the bar. That was exactly what we did.

It was a little tricky holding on to the ice mug, but it really kept my beer chilled and nice! I’ve never been a fan of beer, but that day, it tasted heavenly! Haha!

We even ordered french fries, can you believe it?? It cooled down super fast, so we tried to finish it in record time too. =P

What the kids were really looking forward to was the smashing of the ice mugs after we were done with our beers. This is a must-do if you visit the ice bar! Very SHIOK!
