Whenever Gardens by The Bay is mentioned, the first thing that comes to most people’s minds is the conservatories. Inevitably so, because the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest are the two main attractions at the Gardens. But did you know that apart from the Conservatories which are paid admission, there are huge spaces in the Gardens that are very interesting as well, and are totally free-of-charge?! The newest attraction at Gardens by the Bay (offered free of charge) is the Sun Pavilion. And by that name, I’m sure you can tell that it’s located outdoors - You can locate it easily near the FEO Children’s Garden.
Take a walk through the Sun Pavilion and you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to the desert. It’s amazing, but there are so many different types of cactuses, and some are really quite pretty!
It’s a different perspective altogether when you view cactuses from their top. They resemble balding men?! =P
This is not a very huge space but you can spend quite a fair bit of time here if you read all the information provided on the different species of cactuses. Some are small and puny, while others are tall and slim. Coming from different parts of the world, they also look different outwardly.
That’s a pretty one I spotted with little pink flowers. :)
And this peculiar-looking one that looks like a human brain. Made me shudder a little.
Spiky flowers with spiky leaves – Totally cactus.
Yes, even the resting arm chairs there resemble cactuses with spikes going in all directions.
With the kind of hot and humid weather we are experiencing in Singapore nowadays, I say it’s not a bad idea to walk into the Sun Pavilion and pretend you are in Sahara Desert. While doing that, learn a thing or two about these thorny plants and be amazed at what a resilient and strong species a cactus is.
