Media Invite
The last time I dined at PappaRich, their Nasi Lemak left a deep impression on me because of the fragrant rice and very delicious chili. I love how authentic the food was and how everything was flavorful without being too overwhelming. This time round, my family was invited for a tasting at One KM, to try out the new dishes offered by PappaRich Plus, which is a new addition to the PappaRich Group. They serve up their usual signature dishes with a unique Malaysian touch as well as some selections that are not offered at the usual PappaRich outlets. I was so very excited – You know I LOVE to eat! =D
The outlet at One KM was spacious, with large tables and booths provided for group dining. Apparently, the PappaRich Plus outlets (Plaza Singapura & One KM) are catered for families to encourage them to come together for a meal together. I love this concept! :)
We took a while to browse through their menu – Everything looked good, and we had a hard time choosing! Just look at all those wonderful photos!
Our drinks arrived first and the kids had fruit juices while I had Iced Milk Tea – So thick, frothy and so good! There’s something about Malaysian milk tea that’s just so different!
Here comes our glorious food! The kids had their Nasi Lemak with Fried Drumstick! The rice was completely infused with coconut milk and the drumstick was deep fried to perfection! Such a comforting dish. =D
Then came the Chicken Satays! THEY WERE SO AWESOME! It may sound exaggerated, but they might be the best I’ve eaten so far. The meat’s perfectly marinated and are grilled to charred heavens! The peanut sauce was also good. So yums, my kids and I fought to the last stick. =X
This next dish of Broccoli with Shitake Mushroom was one of kids’ all-time favorites. The huge mushrooms were well simmered and flavorful – Went perfectly with our rice.
The next veggie dish was aptly named, “Four Heavenly Kings with Sambal Belachan”. In one dish, you can have aubergine, ladies’ fingers, long beans and petai. The secret of the dish lies in the sambal of course – It’s made using Indian shallots and takes 3-4 hours to make! You have to taste it to believe it – It was a small dish but bursting with so much flavors!
This Pappa Ayam Masak Merah was such a wonderful chicken dish that I couldn’t stop eating it. It was sweet, slightly spicy and very tender! It’s no wonder though – Only thigh meat and the freshest ingredients are used for this dish!
If you are fan of Asam Laksa, you have to give it a try at PappaRich. Thick rice noodles is served in an aromatic fish-based tamarind broth with shredded pineapple, lettuce, red chili, cucumber, onion and lemon grass topped with shrimp paste and mint leaves. I am salivating as I am visualizing it in my head now.
The star of the meal that day, has got to be this big pot of goodness. PappaRich’s Curry Fish Head’s recipe is based on Middle Eastern and Indian cuisine, which is reflective of Malaysia’s historical location on the spice trade route. The curry paste is made with 22 spices! My favorite fish – Red Snapper, is used in this dish for its sweet meat, as well as ideal fat meat ratio. The curry itself takes 4-5 hours to cook and upon ordering, the fish is put into a claypot and cooked with the curry. When it was served to our table, it was bubbling and the aroma of curry was in the air – SO GOOD!
For such a big pot, you only pay under S$40 for it – I think that’s extremely value-for-money! Lots of ingredients in one hearty pot. =)
Would I go back again, you ask? I just did! Brought my University mates to PappaRich Plus at Plaza Singapura just last week and everyone agreed that the food was thumbs up, and we had a nice and cosy gathering in the restaurant. Needless to say, this would be a restaurant I would go back to again and again.
