Our Hotel Intercontinental Bangkok Experience–Part 1

Media Invite

Bangkok is one of my most favorite holiday destination and I try to make a trip there once a year. There are so many reasons to love Bangkok – The cheap fashion and home wares I lug home on every trip, yummy street food, affordable restaurant prices and the warm hospitality of the Thais. After my most recent trip, I’ve got one more reason added to this list – Hotel Intercontinental Bangkok.

Truth be told, I’ve almost always stayed at low-cost hotels whenever I go to Bangkok. The reason is simple – I spend most of my time on the streets and the I only return to the hotel in the wee hours and all I need is a clean bed to rest. This time round though, my mindset has been totally transformed. I’ve come to realize that a great hotel not only gives me better rest, it also makes me happier emotionally! Unlike my past Bangkok holidays where I usually return to Singapore all exhausted and drained, this particular trip left me feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. And that is exactly how a holiday ought to be like!

Holiday Intercontinental Bangkok may not be the cheapest accommodation option in town, but it is definitely worthwhile to pay a little more for a luxurious and pampering stay. I was elated that they agreed to host the husband and I for three nights’ stay when we were there a couple of weeks ago, and both of us confirmed that it was one of the best hotels we’ve stayed at on a holiday. There are many reasons why and if you are considering between different hotels to stay at in Bangkok, here are the reasons why we would recommend Hotel Intercontinental Bangkok:

A VIP Welcome

I’ve experienced airport transfer services from different hotels, but Hotel Intercontinental Bangkok wins hands down. We were travelling with two other friends and they sent a MPV limousine to pick us up. It was not just spacious, but was equipped with complimentary wifi, bottled water, Perrier and wet tissues. Our chauffeur was warm and friendly, and promptly informed us how to connect to the complimentary wifi within the limousine. We were very impressed and it was certainly a wonderful start to our holiday in Bangkok. Note: The airport transfer service is chargeable and can be requested upon booking of hotel room.

Perfect Location

During my previous trips to Bangkok, I would usually opt to stay at a hotel right smack in the Pratunam area where Platinum shopping mall is. Even though that meant that I could get back to my room very quickly after shopping, it also meant that I needed to walk at least 10 minutes to the nearest BTS station (the Bangkok equivalent of our SMRT). Because of that, we would often take taxis instead of the BTS (cheaper option) to get to different places. If you are unaware, traffic jams in Bangkok are really massive! So travelling via taxis can be very frustrating. Hotel Intercontinental Bangkok is located just in front of Chit Lom BTS station, and connected to various BTS stations by sheltered walkways. Because of that, we took the BTS everywhere we went this time round – Saves time and money, and very convenient!

Parents who plan to bring your kids to Kidzania Bangkok, Hotel Intercontinental Bangkok is your best option. Kidzania is located just one BTS station away, and if you feel up to it, you can even take a leisure stroll from Kidzania back to the hotel via the sheltered walkway! Rain or shine, you will not be stuck anywhere. :)

Stepping into the beautiful lobby of Hotel Intercontinental Bangkok, I was anticipating what our room would look like. You know, the  lobby of a hotel speaks volumes.

Cosy & Stylish Rooms

Our room met all our expectations. It was beautifully furnished, cosy and very spacious!

The bed was a king sized one, with a bench extension. The main color theme of the room was white, beige and brown – very soothing for a restful stay.

IMG_0009

A workspace for us to get some work done at night, with many power ports on the wall for our various charging needs. The TV was exceptionally huge for a hotel room, which was awesome of course.

IMG_0011

The room was spacious enough for a sofa couch too, and that was a perfect spot for some relaxed lounging away.

Excellent Facilities

A tour around the hotel premise surprised us because Hotel Intercontinental Bangkok has the largest gym I’ve ever seen in a hotel! It spans over an entire level in the hotel and are complimentary for guests’ use 24 hours a day.

IMG_0108

Apart from gym, guests may also make use of the luxurious indoor jacuzzi pool absolutely free-of-charge. Even the changing rooms amazed me big time - It looks like a professional gym club!

Not a perfect photo of the indoor jacuzzi pool because of the steam, but it’s a heated pool with a fabulous view! Definitely one of the perks of staying at this hotel. :)

The outdoor swimming pool was another draw for me. It was not big, but it’s got a tropical and relaxing vibe. Again, great views from up there.

If you are a fan of spa treatments, Hotel Intercontinental Bangkok has got a wonderful spa centre to offer. There are even suites for couples who wish to do their treatments together and indulge in a private jacuzzi bath thereafter. Luxurious and pampering!

Great Dining Options

Expect a wonderful breakfast buffet spread when you stay at Hotel Intercontinental Bangkok! I’ll let the pictures do the talking.

IMG_0208IMG_0209IMG_0210IMG_0211IMG_0212IMG_0213IMG_0214IMG_0215IMG_0216IMG_0217 IMG_0218IMG_0220 IMG_0221IMG_0222IMG_0223 IMG_0224IMG_0225IMG_0226IMG_0227

What impressed me about the breakfast spread was the different types of healthy options provided – There were cold soaked oats, yoghurt, parfait, salads, etc. Many hotel breakfasts I’ve taken would probably have only a couple of such options, but at Hotel Intercontinental Bangkok, there were at least 7 different types to choose from!

IMG_0228IMG_0229IMG_0230IMG_0231

Even though it was a buffet spread, the staff would come to every table and ask the guests how they would like their eggs done, and serve them right to the table. Coffee and tea are served the same way as well. That’s personalized service mixed with buffet style – I like it!

IMG_0233IMG_0234

Apart from the buffet breakfast, we were also hosted to a buffet lunch on the last day of our stay. It was one yummy and satisfying meal!

IMG_0309

Very fresh sashimi prepared on the spot by the Japanese chef. Just look at that huge tentacles of the octopus!

We especially enjoyed the Wok station, where we could choose our ingredients available and they were cooked freshly on the spot for us. The stir fried squids were yummy!

IMG_0343

The pasta cooked on the spot was also delicious – We had the aglio olio and couldn’t have enough of it!

IMG_0344

Go for the desserts at the end of the meal. They have so many selections that you’ll have a hard time choosing.

As you can probably guess by now, we left Bangkok with extremely full stomachs and hearts that day!

Thank you Hotel Intercontinental Bangkok for your great hospitality in every way possible. We had such a wonderful stay that we cannot stop telling our friends about it! Hopefully, the next time when we return to Bangkok with our kids, we can stay at Hotel Intercontinental as well. Can’t wait for that trip to happen! :)

My next post will be exclusively on Hotel Intercontinental Bangkok’s Club, which is another reason why we enjoyed our stay so much. Stay tuned for that.

Disclosure: We were sponsored a 4D3N stay at the Deluxe Room at Hotel Intercontinental Bangkok, for review purposes. The hotel also sponsored our two-way airport transfers via limousine, Club access and a buffet lunch for our friends and us. No other financial compensation was received, and all opinions & photographs in this post are as usual, all mine.
