There is something fun and interesting to look forward to at this year’s National Day!
Singapore’s celebrating our 51st birthday this year and the best way to celebrate is to come together as one people and one nation to accomplish one significant milestone – The inaugural One Nation Run 2016 aims to do just that!
The run will be held on 9 August 2016 (yes, National Day itself!) with exciting highlights throughout the day. The event will be held at Marina Barrage and you can expect a memorable and authentic Singaporean experience, with elements of Singapore-inspired icons and symbols injected. Imagine a huge sea of RED coming together to celebrate and enjoy a good time together – A turnout of 4,500 participants is expected, but I think it will be more than that! On such a significant day, I am sure many Singaporeans would want to be a part of it. :)
At the event, there will be a Jalan Jalan 5km Casual Family Run, to symbolize the importance of families at the heart of nation-building. I am expecting a really scenic and relaxing run with my family and many other Singaporeans on that day! They will also attempt to break a record for the most number of participants running with a Singapore flag at the race - I can’t wait already!! Another part of the programme that I am personally looking forward to is the Layang Layang Mass Kite-Flying – How amazing it would be to see so many colorful kites flying in the sky at the same time?! I’ll be sure to pack a good picnic basket to enjoy the time with my kids. It would be so much fun!
You can also expect a Tikam Tikam & Carnival where everyone can relive the good ’ole days of kampong life and be entertained by retro games such as zero point, chapteh, five stones and inflatables! The kids would have lots to do, I’m sure.
