It was all very interesting how things fell into place.
I received an invitation to review the services of A Cut Above Hair Salon about three weeks ago, and the funny thing is that the hair salon is not located in Singapore but Kuala Lumpur! The sender had mistaken me to be a blogger based in Malaysia and sent the invitation to me. I was about to turn it down when I realised that I would actually be travelling to Kuala Lumpur a week after that for my cousin’s wedding, and a hair colouring was just what I needed before the wedding! And so, an appointment was confirmed and a week later, I was sitting in A Cut Above Salon in Mid Valley Mega Mall in Kuala Lumpur! =D
A Cut Above Group has outlets in various locations in Malaysia and the one I visited is located in one of the biggest malls in KL – Mid Valley Mega Mall, and this mall is huge! The salon itself is spacious, brightly-lit and very modern & contemporary in its design.
That was me, looking tired after close to 6 hours of coach ride from Singapore to KL but excited to hear what the stylist has got to offer. I am not one who does hair colouring frequently, except to cover the greys. That is to say that I usually go for dark brown or black for the whole head just to get the job done – Nothing fanciful or interesting at all.
That was my stylist on the left in white. When I shared that my primary aim is to cover the greys but add a little edge to it, she proposed to cover the whole head in dark brown and then spice it up with a little pink streaks there, and a little purple streaks there. Those two happen to be my kids’ favourite colour - Sounds perfect to me!
What I really liked was how comfortable and at ease my stylist made me feel. There were salons I visited before that made me feel like I was a terrible sinner who has neglected my hair and left them so dry. Others would try their best to persuade me throughout the session that I needed to invest in a good treatment for the whole head. At A Cut Above Salon though, my stylist was enthusiastic and excited about how my hair colouring will turn out eventually and I got really excited as well - After all, it was my first time attempting anything more exciting than brown or black!
Apart from my stylist, the rest of the assistants who worked on my hair were so nice as well. They kept asking me if I needed more drinks and whether I needed anything else. I sat there for a long time, but the service made it a lot more tolerable. :)
Here’s the end result, and I am mighty happy with it! =D Love how the coloured streaks can be subtle and almost hidden underneath, if I want a clean look, but they can all peek out to give me a modern and fun look!
When I tie up my hair in a half ponytail, the purple streaks are more obvious. Needless to say, my kids got very excited about my new hair colour!

The next time I go to KL, you bet I’ll head straight to the salon for another wonderful experience. Just a little tip from me to you: Our strong currency is very favourable, so you can get a lot more done there in KL with the amount you are paying in Singapore. =P
