NDP 2017 Special: What’s In Your Funpack?

One of the things that people always talk about during the National Day Parade every year is the Funpack. I can totally understand the anticipation and excitement – Receiving the Funpack is like receiving a present filled with candies and toys! Let’s take a look at what’s inside the Fun Pack this year! =D

This year’s Funpack is a haversack with many compartments (and even has a detachable front pouch!), and come in white or red. It was designed by two students from LaSalle College of the Arts, who bested more than 60 entries from their school. According to my daughter who went for the P5 NE Show, the white is a more popular choice among the students, so she and her friends all grabbed white bags. For me, I thought the red was a more representative color, so I like it more! Interestingly, this year’s Funpack is the lightest in NDP history, at only 1.5kg, and include fewer items that can do more. For example, if you refer to the photo above, you will notice this fan-like item with the word ‘Singapore’ – It can be used as a fan, banner and clapper! – Three functionalities in just one item! Also included in the funpack is an NS50 keychain to commemorate 50 years of national service, as well as a LED flag which I expect to be waving throughout the show, along with a pack of tissues, cap, disposable poncho and temporary tattoos. Of course, there are also snacks to keep the hunger pangs at bay throughout the show – Salted egg chips and Khong Guan biscuits with two bottles of mineral water.

This move to reduce the number of items was intentional, said Major Ang Kian Hoe Kelly, who is deputy chairman for logistics and finance. His team had noticed over the past years that there were more spectators taking photos and videos of the show while grappling with multiple interactive items. Reducing the number of items that spectators have to grapple with during the show allows them to engage better and have more time to take selfies and photos of the show! =D

We enjoyed watching the NDP Preview so much last Saturday! Share more on the blog soon on our experience! =D
