Oscar’s at Conrad Centennial Singapore never disappoints, but their new buffet line in celebration of our nation’s 52nd birthday literally WOWS!
When I first saw the line-up for the buffet, I knew I had to go try it with the husband. The buffet has got two of our most favorite food on earth – Crabs & Durians. I think we will be quite happy just chomping on these two all night long, but quite frankly, the rest of the buffet line was hard to resist as well. There are just way too many choices and you may have difficulty wondering where to start, but since I’m such a kind blogger, I shall share with you a step-by-step guide to how you can get the most out of Oscar’s Local Delights Buffet, and leave the restaurant feeling at the top of the world. You’re most welcome.
Step #1: Start With The Appetizers
This is like a no-brainer, but as if you need any form of appetizers when you walk into a restaurant with this kind of buffet spread? Still, control yourself and do not dive right into the main dishes because you absolutely have time for that later. Go with a hot Soup of the Day, then attack the starters – Yes, every single one of them because well, I couldn’t decide which is my favorite – Every starter was good.
I had Chicken Soup (for the soul) last night and it was amazing – Flavorful, full of ingredients of potatoes, carrots, chicken chunks. So good. Everyday, there will be two soups to choose from. Better still, have both!
Moving on to the starters, there are baby octopuses with cucumbers, prawns with green mangoes, top shell with lady’s fingers and toufu and beef with tomatoes. Truth be told, I had them as starters as well as throughout the meal – They totally whet my appetite.
Step #2: Salad Time!
You probably might wonder why is there a need to go for salad when there are so many other dishes waiting for you? Now, this is the reason: Fresh and wide selection of salad, toppings and sauces await you!
There is even a Cheese Well that you can make your caesar salad in! Cheese lovers, rejoice!
Step #3: Attack The Local Delights
It’s a buffet line created to celebrate our nation’s birthday, so Chef Alex included many of the local favorites into the buffet spread, and every dish was good! My personal recommendations are the Nonya Kueh Pie Tee, Spicy Chili Crabs, Dry Curry Chicken and Dry Bak Kut Teh! You’ll love the perfect blend of flavors in all these dishes!
Step #4: Seafood & Sashimi Time
In between flavorful local delight dishes and the other international cuisines on the spread, insert in time for fresh seafood spread of lobsters, prawns, crabs and oysters, and sashimi to clean your palettes. Love how fresh everything was!
Step #5: Check Out The Rest
Apart from the local delights, there are indian and western dishes on the buffet line as well and they were pretty well done too, in my opinion. By now, you should be at least 60% full – take the chance to try out the rest of the buffet line slowly!
Step #6: Have A Sip Of Local Flavor
Time to grab a drink after eating so much! Located outside the restaurant is a friendly staff waiting to serve you Teh Tarik, Bandung and Soya Bean Milk! Somehow, they taste better when served this way?! =D
Step #7: What Time Is It?? It’s Dessert Time!
I know you have been waiting all night for this, because seriously, who can resist such a good-looking dessert spread?! If you only have tummy space for a few selections, don’t miss the durian desserts such as durian pancakes and durian penyet! On top of those, I also think that the Matcha Tart was really well done! And of course, colourful Nonya Kuehs, cakes and ice-cream delight anytime!
Step #8: Fruits, Oh Glorious Fruits!
With such a good selection of tropical fruits available on the buffet line, there is no way you should miss them out! I saw lychees, longans and rambutans!
Step #9: DURIANS!!
Now, you are finally ready for fresh durians!! Oscar’s has brought in fresh durians to their buffet line for the first time, so after you have gone through the first 8 steps mentioned above, shift outdoors to the alfresco dining area and enjoy fresh durians opened for you on the spot. Last night, we enjoyed D18 and D24 durians and were amazed at how much we could stomach after gorging ourselves silly on the buffet line. =P I guess, durians occupy a separate compartment in our stomachs. =P
If you think that durians provided free-flow on a buffet line cannot be that good, you are wrong. They were very, very good durians – Take it from durian-lovers like the husband and I - We’ve eaten many durians before in our lifetime!
Step #10: End With A Piping Bowl Of Noodles
In case you think Step #9 would be the end of your buffet fiesta at Oscar’s, you are wrong. There is one final step which you cannot do without, and that is to have a bowl of piping hot noodles! There is a noodle station located at the alfresco dining area of Oscar’s, and the chef will conjure up your perfect bowl of noodles according to your choice of noodles and ingredients! What a comforting way to end the night!
