Spice World Hotpot Singapore

Food Tasting

I love hotpot any day! Frankly, what’s not to love about hotpot?? It’s piping hot, freshly cooked & eaten right away and I can’t stop drinking bowls and bowls of hearty broths that just get yummier as the meal moves along. Over the Mother’s Day weekend, I was treated to a really delicious hotpot meal at a restaurant with great ambience – I thought I was transported to China at some point! =P If you are a hotpot fan too, you’ve got to check out the newly opened Spice World Hotpot at Clarke Quay. And if you are a mala lover as well, this is a place NOT TO BE MISSED. Brownie points? The Mala can come in the shape of a teddy bear or Hello Kitty, if you are up for it. Cue cute photo right away:

More about that later. Check out the restaurant’s decor!

See what I mean? The restaurant’s decor has such a strong Oriental flavour and I especially love those gigantic lanterns! So much feels in one place. :) Because of the layout of the restaurant with segregation of tables into sections, the dining experience can feel like a private and cosy one even when the restaurant is at full-house.

Pots of broths waiting to refill your hotpots. An impressive 7 types of broths are available for selection here Spicy Mala, 3 Delicacy, Pork Belly and Chicken, Wild Mushroom, Tomato, Tom-yam and Curry! Their specialty broth is of course the Mala broth, and it is a must-try when you visit (Unless you can’t take spicy – then it’s too bad!).

Before we got ushered to our table, I was attracted by the rows of sauces and condiments available. You can mix and match to get the flavours you like to go with your hotpot. I would go with sesame sauce, minced garlic and chili anytime! Their peanut sauce is nice too!

Also grab some starters provided complimentary with your meal and enjoy them while waiting for your hotpot to be ready. Bound to rake up an appetite!

The pavilion was where our table was – Imagine a pavilion right in the middle of a restaurant??! That apparently is a replica of the real architecture in China, where the restaurant originated from. It was special having hotpot in such a beautiful setting. :)

And out hotpot was served! We opted for Tomato broth in one, and Mala in the other. While I was wow-ed by how cute the Mala bear butter was, I was actually blown away by the amazing service of the staff. They were professional, polite and very friendly. Spice World Hotpot is an ala carte hotpot restaurant, so you order your dishes from the menu and they are served to you. If you would like, the service staff can also assist to do the cooking for you, but it’s always more fun to DIY, isn’t it?

If the Mala broth is not spicy enough, there are cans of Mala oil for you to add to your broth. Up the spicy-ness all the way!

While waiting for the broths to start boiling, we got started on hot starter dishes, which were super delicious! The 5 spice powder deep fried pork slices ($12.90) were crispy, savoury and totally my-style! I couldn’t stop after one bite, seriously.

Another snack that amazed me was this Glutinous Rice Cake with brown sugar ($7.90) – I love rice cakes, and this was soft and chewy at the same time! My kids love it too.

The service staff served us each a piping hot bowl of tomato soup to kick start the meal and it was SO GOOD. You know broths really make or break a hotpot meal, right? I would totally go back again and again just for this tomato broth. The soup was flavourful and naturally sweet with small chunks of tomatoes – Super hearty and appetizing! I’m sure you can tell from the colour of the soup how good it was. I was told that the broths at Spice World Hotpot are all made with high-quality and fresh ingredients daily with no MSG added. Indeed, I was not thirsty at all at the end of the meal!

If you think the wow factor ends here, you are wrong! Just look at this Barbie Wagyu ($38.90)! =D My kids literally screeched when this was served to our table – Not just because the barbie was dressed in wagyu slices, but because they really love beef. We couldn’t wait to dig in! And the wagyu did not disappoint – So fresh and so good!

IMG_4215

The sliced Red Tilapia ($19.90) was served so magnificently and tasted super sweet! We enjoyed that very much as well. :)

Then this one meter lamb slices ($28.90) came – Amazing! I am not a fan of lamb but this had no smell at all and tasted pretty good! And of course, this was definitely a visual treat.

Other dishes we tasted were fresh and always meticulously and beautifully displayed before serving to our table – Totally whet our appetites!
