Have you ever seen so many medicines prescribed for 1 person?
I saw them for the first time last night.
This was a week that the Kuan family was feeling under the weather. It has never happened to us before – at least not everyone together at the same time. So it’s really tiring, physically and mentally. Everyone in the family is sick except me – BIG MIGHTY ME!
Joey was first down with stomach flu. She vomited many times about three days ago and we brought her to a 24-hour clinic at Yishun because it was already close to 1am then. She was diagnose with stomach flu and given anti-vomit medication and paracetamol. She got better the day after and there was no vomiting or fever at all the whole day. Then yesterday she went to school and her teacher called me at late morning saying that she was having bad diarrhea and so I asked my dad to go drive her home for my MIL to take care.
By 2pm, my MIL had called me many times to tell me that she had been complaining of tummy aches and was screaming away in pain. I quickly rushed home and brought her to KK Hospital Children’s Emergency for a check-up. Believe it or not, when I rushed home, she was all pale-faced and lethargic and totally un-Joey. But when we reached the hospital, she was completely back to normal again! Running around and talking incessantly about the cartoons on the walls. When the nurse tried to take her blood pressure by putting the band around her arm, she burst into tears! What an emotional roller-coaster she is.
Took her urine sample and doctor diagnosed her as having mild urinary tract infection. It occurs sometimes because the child is dehydrated (from the vomiting and diarrhea, I believe) or because of hygiene factors. In any case, she was given 2 large bags of medication which was totally unbelievable. She had to be on a 2-week antibiotics because of the infection and the antibiotics totaled 8 bottles in all.
This is the first time Joey was placed on any antibiotics and I was amazed at how troublesome it was to consume it. In every bottle, there are white powder. I have to fill the bottle with water up to a certain mark, syringe out 10.8ml (talk about precision!) for her to take three times a day. Every bottle can feed up to 3 times so after each feed, I must refrigerate the remainders. I can imagine the look on Joey’s teacher’s face when I give her the instructions next week. =P
Apart from the antibiotics, the hospital also gave us 2 bottles of paracetamol, 2 bottles of brufen, 2 bottles of anti-diarrhea meds and some satchets to dissolve and drink to clear the wind in the tummy. Know what was my first thought when I saw the bottles and bottles of meds?
How very WORTH IT to visit the Children Emergency clinic!Remember the 24-hour clinic we brought Joey three days ago? That cost us $85! Cos they charge A&E fees after 11pm. And all we got was 2 bottles of meds. The KK Hospital Children Emergency Clinic did a lab test on Joey’s urine sample, doctor was professional and meticulous, fed Joey medication upon arrival at the hospital and gave us so many medications and we only paid $80!But of course, I rather my kids stay healthy and there’s no need to see the doctor at all!!!!!
On a separate note, your health is important too. Check out how colon hydrotherapy can help!
