I Have Not One, But Two Talkative Girls At Home

Don’t people always say that siblings usually have very different personalities from each other? Doesn’t seem like the case in my house – Both girls LOVE to talk! The only time they are quiet is when they’re watching their favourite cartoons on TV.

It must be a girl thing. Joey started talking eloquently at a very young age. Baby Jayne, though started slightly later, is very fluent in her speech by now. I still remember feeling worried just a few months ago that Baby Jayne doesn’t seem to be speaking much. I was worried that she would have problems in her speech or delayed learning. Turned out I was worrying for nothing. The Baby Jayne today is a talker. Sometimes, I wish she’d listen more. =.=

Just like Joey, Baby Jayne speaks primarily in Mandarin. Both hubby and I are most comfortable speaking in Mandarin, and both our parents speak only Mandarin. It’s no wonder my kids pick up Mandarin much faster! =P But I am not so concerned, because from Joey’s experience, I already know the kids will pick up English very fast once they start school. So, building up their Mandarin foundation now is important, as schools focus on English most of the time. Those who are weak in Mandarin will find it hard to improve because the learning environment is still very much English-based.

Baby Jayne is 26 months old now, and now speaks in full sentences. It’s been an amazing journey actually. She started saying single words at the beginning of this year, and for a good few months, she would try to strike up conversations with us with the limited single words she knows. Then suddenly, out of nowhere, she started to piece her single words together though some connecting words were usually missing. After she turned two, she started to speak in proper sentences where some sensible connecting words are used most of the time. It all transited so fast that I was caught unawares mostly. Nowadays, Baby Jayne would sprout out certain long sentences that would make us all double up in laughter. We are so amazed at how well she’s speaking now! Really Thank You Jesus! =D

So now that both my girls love to talk so much, I don’t even need to explain to you how ‘lively’ the whole house is nowadays.

Just last night, I reached home after a long tiring day at work. I thought I would plod down on my bed and fall asleep immediately, but when both my girls started talking all at the same time, telling me about their day, I felt energy creep back into me. All of a sudden, I didn’t feel tired anymore, and I laughed so much at all their funny actions and words that I felt so much happier. It was a wonderful way to end a day, and the feeling of bliss filled my heart once again. Recently, I keep feeling very thankful that I decided to have children. They are truly God’s best gifts to me, and every time I look at them, I still marvel at how much God loves me because He gave them to me. =)
