I Have A Sensitive New Age Girl In My House

It’s funny how even though I have two girls at home, they give me very different motherhood experiences individually.

Joey is a typical firstborn and eldest sibling, who has this leadership quality and maternal instinct all at the same time. She leads, commands and takes ownership over many things in the house, including her sister. Baby Jayne, on the other hand, is a typical little sister who knows that she must listen to her sister some times, but other times, would throw tantrums just to get her sister’s cuddles.

Recently, Baby Jayne has been showing more and more of the lady side of her. To my surprise, she’s turning out to be a sensitive new age girl. And it’s really sweet to watch her, and this side of her definitely warms the hearts of those in the family, especially.

When my father-in-law comes home from work looking tired, she would run to the door shouting ‘Ye ye! Ye ye!’ (Grandfather in Mandarin) all the way, and while he sweeps her up in an embrace, she’d ask him where he came from, what he was doing before coming home, what he bought for dinner, etc. The interesting thing was she was not the typical curious kid who keeps asking annoying questions. It appears as if she was genuinely interested to know if her grandfather had a good day! It was way too sweet for all of us who witnessed the little moment between them at the end of the day.

It’s surprising because little girls who are barely three years old are usually self-centred and would hardly be interested in other people’s welfare, isn’t it? For Baby Jayne to behave like that, no matter her grandfather loves her to bits. =) Is this part of growing up anyway? I think it’s really lovely.

And as I watched her, it reminded me of this saying, ‘People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.’ =D Truly, a person who sincerely cares for people will win many friends or himself/herself, and will likely be a person loved by many in his/her lifetime. It is my prayer that both my girls grow up to be such loving people who genuinely are interested in the lives of people and are able to give love and concern to those who need them.
