Last Saturday, we woke up bright and early for Family Wellness Day for Joey’s school. Together with about 25 other families, we visited Lorong Halus Wetland Reserve. It was our first time there, and although there was no huge playgrounds or particularly interesting sights, we somehow enjoyed our morning there. The air was fresh (strange in this time of haze) and there was abundant open space for everyone to roam freely. It’s really nice to be out enjoying the Nature!
I love the architectural look of this bridge. :)
I love how peaceful the river was. Weekends should be spent resting the soul and mind from a long work week, and this was a good place to do it.
Joey wanted very badly to join the Family Wellness Day because her friends were going. So even though it was really early, we agreed to go for it. So glad we did! It was so nice to see her happy hanging around with her friends. :)
What attracted them along the way was patches and patches of mimosa! And they did what every kid would do – Touch and make all the mimosa leaves close up - I love doing that myself!
I was enjoying seeing the kids enjoy themselves so much – Sure beats spending time on gadgets and in front of the TV anytime!
It’s a pity we don’t get to see much of such lalang in urban Singapore - It might be the kids’ first encounter with it! Look how tickled Joey was by a stalk she found on the pavement.
In the middle of the Wetland Reserve, there’s a fitness area on sand pits, and the kids had lots of fun there. That was also where I discovered that many of Joey’s friends were gymnasts by nature! They could swing and somersault on the monkey bars and parallel bars effortlessly. Pretty amazed.
Joey obviously needed more help than that. =P
Lorong Halus Wetland Reserve is a wonderful place to spend a morning with your family – It’s spacious and breezy with lots of natural sights along the way. Best of all, it’s free-of-charge! Now, if you are hungry after a morning of hanging out at the Wetland Reserve, there are several food outlets near the fitness area as well.
To get to Lorong Halus Wetland Reserve: Take the Lorong Halus exit off the Tampines Expressway (TPE), and at the end of Lorong Halus and the intersection with Pasir Ris Farmway 3 turn left and you will soon see the main entrance.
