Sofia The First’s 1st Visit To Asia!

In recent years, I’ve been inducted to the world of princesses and fairies all thanks to my girls. It’s unbelievable, but their love for princesses and fairies can get really radical even at this age. If we say teenagers go crazy over their idols – waiting for them at the airport with large bouquets of flowers, helium balloons and chocolates & bears when they arrive in Singapore, booking taxis to follow them everywhere they go, etc, then this is the junior version of it. If you have girls as well, you would totally understand what I mean.

Last weekend, Sofia The First made first appearance in Asia at Marina Square shopping mall, and I’m sure you can imagine the turnout. Sofia is the newest princess on Disney Junior Channel, and she has charmed so many little princess wannabe with her brand new animation series. I have to admit that I like her animation series very much too – The stories are interesting, with very catchy original tunes and songs, and always come with a good ‘moral of story’ to encourage the young ones watching. Excessive TV is never good, but when the kids do get to watch, I am glad it’s something with good values and is also highly entertaining at the same time. Thankfully, we were there on a media invite and didn’t have to queue hours to get into the arena for the exclusive Meet-and-Greet session with Sofia The First (Thank you, Disney Junior!). There were several Meet-and-Greet sessions that took place over the last weekend, and every single one was packed to the brim.

It is at events like these that I get reminded about how hardcore some of these fans can be. -My girls were absolutely no match! There was a little girl dressed up totally like Sofia The First, and carrying a doll of Sofia The First, seated at the first row before Sofia appeared. An emcee was asking questions about Sofia and giving out prizes to the children who could answer them. You bet she was the first to shoot up her hand when the first question was asked, and she got her prize after giving the right answer (But of course!). She totally deserved it.

And guess what? My little Joey was the 2nd to answer a question! True fans indeed – Knew everything about Sofia. =.=

Just before Sofia appeared on stage, the kids were taught how to curtsy like a Princess and bow like a Prince. I personally think Joey needs more practice – The butt’s too jutted out, my dear! That’s hardly elegant. =.=

The kids went crazy when Sofia The First finally appeared on the stage!

And of course, the moment that everyone was waiting for! The girls hugged Sofia and held her hands like any fans would. :)

There were many fringe activities happening at the road show as well, showcasing the different animation series on Disney Junior Channel such as Phineas & Ferb, Sheriff Callie’s Wild West, etc. My kids know every one of them – Opps. The most popular station with the kids was probably the ‘Karaoke’ station, where kids could get into a box and sing to their heart’s content, a song chosen from the Disney animations. You probably can guess it by now – the most popular song was Frozen’s ‘Let It Go’. What a very smart idea from the organizers! This totally won the kids’ heart – The queue was so long and never-ending!

Thanks for the invitation, Disney Junior – It was fun! :)
