Cafes At Everton Park

The cafe culture is slowly but surely developing itself in Singapore, and I am glad. The husband and I are coffee drinkers, and we sometimes spend our off days on Monday hopping from one cafe to another. But because of limited budget and space in our stomachs, we are usually only able to cover at most two cafes each time. I enjoy cafe-hop more than the husband though, because I appreciate good and interesting interior decor, good food and good ambience. He just enjoys spending time with me, I guess. :P

Not too long ago, Tiong Bahru was the new cafe haunt for many people because within a short period of time, many good cafes sprouted out in that vicinity. Recently, the same phenomenon has happened to Everton Park as well – Seems like old estates are great draws for cafes.

I used to work for 5 years just opposite the road from Everton Park housing estate, so I spent many of my afternoons having lunches there. I went back again last week, after almost 7-8 years, and I was so amazed to see how much the whole estate has changed! The influx of new cafes and eateries is such a refreshing change to the estate that used to be really quiet and ‘dead’. We took a walk around to check out the various cafes and shops but many of them were closed because it was a Monday. Looks like we need to go back to Everton Park again on a non-Monday. If you are a cafe-hopper, I believe you will enjoy Everton Park as well. :)

White bicycle with white basket parked in front of a white shop with white tables and chairs. Love the bright and cheery yellow pipe that runs above. :)

Cute name of a cafe, isn’t it? :)

I would totally pay a visit to this cafe simply because of its retro decor and feel. Next time, I promise.

The Grin Affair is known for its cakes in jars. Too bad they are closed on Mondays – Will be back another day to check them out. I had a brief look into the shop, and it’s really, really small and cosy.

Happy3 Bites Cafe was one of the bigger cafes around with good number of seats, so we settled in this cafe for lunch.

Their Aglio Olio with bacon was SO AWESOME. It was very flavorful with a generous portion of bacon bits. Love it!

The Full Breakfast set was good too – The sausages and mushrooms were especially well done.

We decided to have coffee and desserts at another cafe, and we next passed by Batterworks, which had some cosy seating areas as well. Seems like they make fresh bakes in the shop everyday because there is a kitchen right behind the counter, where the ladies were busy baking. We had to press a bell to get their attention when we wanted to place our orders.

Ordered their Apple Crumble and Dark Chocolate Mousse cake to try – Not too bad. The apple crumble had a very homemade feel.

We were very full by now, but when we passed by Nylon Coffee Roasters, we couldn’t help it but walk in because the aroma of coffee was just too captivating! Apparently, Nylon began with a really small shop space, so it was more of a takeaway coffee place. But when we visited, it has expanded by another shop space, so they’ve set up a standing counter for their customers. No chairs – Just a standing counter, but it didn’t stop the customers from standing around and enjoying their cuppa with magazines. Quite a cool concept, I say.

And their coffee is quite da bomb. Aromatic, strong and definitely gourmet level. A signage at their counter said that the current blend was from Africa. Apparently, they change their coffee beans seasonally, and you just drink whatever they offer. Of course, customers can still have their choice of how the coffee is done – Latte, Americano, etc. My cup of Americano cost me $3.

Just before we ended our Everton Park cafe trail for that day, we passed by this Soy Milk stall that sells organic soy milk and beancurd. We ordered a bowl to try – it was so soft and fragrant. Thumbs up!

Served with Gula Melaka – The perfect combination.
