I’m sure you know by now that my family loves going for staycations during the weekends. It’s one of the easiest and quickest ways to get away from our daily routines and pretend we are away on a vacation without stepping out of the country. This particular hotel, I’ve passed by hundreds and thousands of times before, but I’ve not had a staycation there before. It’s located in one of the most prime locations in Singapore, with lots of shopping and dining options all around. Yes, I’m talking about Marriott Hotel Singapore located along Orchard Road, right next to Tangs. Finally, we had a staycation there!
My first impression of the hotel was that it’s got a spacious lobby with extremely high ceiling. I love the light in the space, with different ones hanging out enjoying the hi-tea and chit-chatting with each other. On a Saturday afternoon, this was a relaxing sight.
THE ROOMS
We were shown to our rooms for the night – Two connecting rooms – Perfect for families. The rooms are in neutral tones, creating a really soothing and cosy feel. Always love it that there is a couch in the room as well.
On the side, there was also a small working desk, where we had some of our meals in the room.
The kids are always happy to get their own room and I was definitely happy about that arrangement – I can watch TV till late at night without disturbing the kids’ sleep. :)
The bathrooms were nice, with two basins and a standing shower area each. I personally like it that they also have a dressing table corner, for the ladies to do their makeup, etc.
Toiletries (that smell really nice) are provided too, of course.
THE FACILITIES
Marriott Hotel Singapore has a 24-hour gym for its guests to use. The gym is not big, but it’s packed with many useful equipment. Many treadmills and stationery bikes, as well as all kinds of weights and exercise stations.
The hotel has sauna, indoor jacuzzi and spa services. The first two are complimentary for all guests, but spa is chargeable as usual. I like it that it’s spacious and luxurious – Definitely a good way for guests to relax and rejuvenate.
The swimming pool is huge and nice, with a view of ION. The kids couldn’t wait to jump in, of course! There is a whole stretch of shallow waters on one end of the pool, so babies and toddlers can have fun safely too.
Guests can enjoy the services in the Executive Lounge if they booked Executive rooms and above, or a fee can be paid to enjoy that privilege. As with all hotel Executive Lounges, they serve cocktails and breakfasts. Marriott Hotel is more of a business hotel though, so children below 12 years old are not allowed into the Lounge. Therefore, during our stay there, we didn’t spend time at the Lounge at all. Families considering to do staycations at Marriott Hotel should take note of this.
THE FOOD
We enjoyed a few meals at Marriott Hotel during our stay. The hotel kindly hosted us to a nice lunch at their Poolside Grill restaurant. It was alfresco dining and we could see the swimming pool while we ate. It was quite lovely, really and I enjoyed my food! They serve set lunches with a choice of starters, main course and desserts, and free flow drinks.
Kids have their own menu as well.
Warm bread was served to every one as an appetizer.
The kids had fried cod fish and pasta. I especially like the cod fish – It was light and crispy.
I opted for Cream of Broccoli for my starter, and it was SO AWESOME GOOD.
My mother-in-law, who joined me for lunch (because the husband was away at a wedding) chose Crab Cake Salad and it was lovely as well. Wish there was more greens though.
There were two main courses to choose from – Sirloin Steak and Roasted Chicken Leg, and both were pretty delicious. I like the slightly-charred taste of the beef and the mashed potatoes were yummy.
The chicken leg was done to perfection with spinach and corn puree as the sides. The skin was crispy and the meat inside tender and soft. It was good!
For desserts, we had fruit platter and my favorite dessert-of-all-time – Lemon Meringue Tart. I have no complains. Definitely a sweet end to our lunch. =D
Later that afternoon, we enjoyed a good spread of finger food at the hotel lobby. It was cocktail time at the Executive Lounge, but because kids were not allowed into the Lounge, the hotel kindly allowed us to enjoy the lounge benefits in the lobby instead. The food was really delicious and we ordered some of them more than once because the kids love them!
It was a galore of food! Eating always makes me happy.
Buffet breakfast the next morning was at the Marriott Café, and as expected, the food variety and quality were good.
if you are looking for a staycation option that gives you many dining, shopping and entertainment options, I would recommend Marriott Hotel Singapore. Right smacked along Orchard Road, you can shop till you drop and choose from hundreds of different restaurants, cafes and food courts for your meals. There are several cinemas and KTVs nearby as well, so you don’t need to worry about entertainment. For the kids, there are indoor playgrounds and arcades nearby as well. The nearest MRT station – Orchard – is just a five minute walk away, and there are many buses serving the bus stop right outside the hotel. It seriously cannot get any more convenient than this!
For those interested to book a staycation at Marriott Hotel Singapore, you’d be happy to know that there are great promotions happening right now! Check out the deals and packages available on their website, and the SG50 Promotion in particular, sounds like a really good deal!
Thank you Marriott Hotel Singapore for hosting us for a weekend staycation. It was a good break for all of us! Can’t wait to be back again soon.
