Nothing thrills me more than discovering yet another family friendly restaurant on our sunny island because you know, peaceful meal times are one of my many goals in life. Only parents can fully understand that and I cannot over-emphasize how important that is.
So, if you are on the lookout for a great restaurant that serves good food and keep your children sufficiently entertained during this year end festive season, I have just the right recommendation for you! Sandbank is located at Parkland Green – this new stretch along East Coast Park with cafes and restaurants – and you’d love the semi alfresco dining concept, I promise you! I love East Coast Park because it’s so chill and relaxing, with BBQ smells in the air and the sound of waves beating on the shores. Here at Sandbank, you get to experience all of that with your loved ones and you won’t want to leave!
This was the stretch of sea right in front of Sandbank, and I was admiring it the whole time I was enjoying my lunch, which was just as magnificent by the way. Just in case you are still wondering which part of East Coast Park this is, it is actually directly opposite Parkway Parade. Take the underpass from behind Parkway Parade to get to Parkland Green.
The restaurant’s airy because it’s semi alfresco and you get the sea breeze coming through. Seats are aplenty and there are large TV screens at every direction.
The best part about Sandbank? TWO PLUNGE POOLS OUTSIDE THE RESTAURANT!
We could hardly contain our excitement when we saw the pools that Joey had to walk in even before she changed into her wet suits! Parents need not worry as the lap pools are shallow. The deeper one came up to slightly above Joey’s knees and the shallower one was only until her ankles. They are more for soaking than swimming, as you can tell.
Sandbank serves the usual Italian and Western cuisines and there are kids’ meals as well. Once we were seated, the kids were presented with coloring sheets and color pencils to keep them busy while we placed our orders.
We ordered a feast and enjoyed every single dish that was served. The food was really good and the service was prompt and efficient.
The girls ordered Mac & Cheese and it was served with nuggets, french fries and fruit punch.
For starters, we had Fruit Salad, Fried Calamari, Gambas Prawns and Clams in White Wine. Everything was awesome!
Fruit Salad: Tangy, light and appetizing.
Fried Calamari: Crispy and chewy.
Gambas Prawns: Huge, sweet, spicy and juicy. My fav starter!
Clams in White Wine: Yummy and sweet with lots of ‘giam chye’ (salty vegetables) and celery!
For our mains, we had Sirloin Steaks and Sea Bass on Banana Leaf. I enjoyed both very much – Cooked to perfection and juicy.
Sirloin Steak: Served with cooked side vegetables and on a bed of mashed potatoes. The sauce was delicious!
Sea Bass on Banana Leaf was oven baked with sea salt (you can also opt for sambal chili, but I had it with sea salt and requested for sambal chili on the side). The fish was so fresh, sweet and full of flavors! Absolutely a delight!
No meal is complete without desserts and coffee, so we ordered a Warm Apple Crumble with Ice-cream to share. SO GOOD!
The kids promptly changed into their wet suits and jumped right into the plunge pools while the adults continued to dine leisurely. It was great that we could see the kids from our table via the clear glass walls. You can also opt for the seats next to the pools, if you want to watch your kids better. The girls made new friends at the plunge pools, and we almost couldn’t get them to leave at the end!
After a really good lunch, we strolled along the beach and the girls collected pine cones and sea shells. Best Sunday ever. =)
