Be A Local Tourist In Singapore - Take The Duck Tour!

Media Review

I have been working at Suntec City for the last 10 years and every time I pass by this, there is this thought that goes through my mind, “Looks so fun. I hope to ride that soon.”

Strangely, I never got down to doing it until last weekend when we were having a staycation at The South Beach, and it made perfect sense for us to go for the Duck Tour since it’s just across the road from the hotel. So glad we went for it – Even as a Singaporean for over 30 years, I still learnt so many new things about Singapore and our history and landmarks in that one hour tour. It was actually fun pretending to be a tourist in my own country! =P

Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.ducktours.com.sg/duck.php or directly at the Singapore Ducktours counter located at Level 1 of Suntec Convention Centre. They operate daily from 10am to 6pm with departures every hour.

The tour duration is one hour and you will experience both land and sea rides on the Duck.

I was really looking forward to the ride with the kids! I thought it would be a great chance for them to know more about Singapore. They were, however, looking forward to the splash that would happen when the Duck goes into the sea!

And Joey was tickled when the red signage in front – No yawning allowed! =X

We had a Tour Guide who brought us through the entire ride, telling us the landmarks to look out for, and sharing information about them. Pretty interesting sharing about how some buildings came about and the stories behind them.

If you want to be splashed when the Duck enters the sea, you can opt for seats at the first 2 rows. We were at the 4th row, so we were safe from the waters. Nonetheless, the whole ride was safe and smooth, so there’s really no big splashes to worry about. Everybody just joined in the fun and screamed a little when the vessel entered the sea anyway. =P

What I really like about going on the Duck Tour, besides knowing more about Singapore and our landmarks is being able to get up, close and personal with some of the major landmarks in Singapore and take photographs of them from angles that would otherwise not be possible if I was not on the Duck. I have photographed most of the landmarks such as the SuperTrees at Gardens by the Bay, The Flyer, Merlion, etc before, but on the Duck Tour, I snapped so many photographs of them from the sea and they were magnificent to say the least! That should be one of the most exclusive factors about the Duck Tour, so even locals should go for it!

Perhaps my most fav shot on the tour  because of how close up I got to the Merlion! I remembered sometime last year, I was taking photographs of the Merlion as well, but from land where the people were standing and all I got was the side view of the Merlion. This view definitely made the whole tour worthwhile!

We were back at Suntec Convention Centre after one hour and I enjoyed every minute of the ride. If you have not taken it before, I think it’s a really nice thing to do with your kids, especially if you are having a staycation in town. Play tourist for a day, and enjoy every moment of it! :)

There are many packages available for the Duck Tours and you can find out more on their website: http://www.ducktours.com.sg/tours_duck.php. On top of the Duck Tour, you can also add on other attractions such as the Singapore Flyer, Singapore 7 Sightseeing Tour etc at packaged rates. I had initially wanted to take the Singapore 7 Sightseeing bus, but we were running short of time. The kids would definitely enjoy the open top bus ride experience, I say! Riding down Orchard Road, Shenton Way and checking out the various heritage sites around town on that bus would be quite a fun thing to do. Singapore 7 Sightseeing bus offers 4 HoHo Lines, 2 Feeder Lines & 1 Optional Night tour - making it so much easier for tourists to see more of Singapore seamlessly. That’s certainly something great to do if you want to play tourist for a day. There are options for 1-day or 2-day unlimited rides, so go for what you need.
