Review: D-Link Wireless Range Extender

Product Review

I’ll begin by saying that I am no techie guru and I don’t understand a thing about technical details and specifications. I am just a user like many of you, who expects high-speed and excellent performance when it comes to gadgets and devices. As a busy full-time working mom who needs to get multiple things done concurrently, nothing frustrates me more than a slow and unstable internet connection.

I was approached to review the D-Link Wireless AC1200 Dual Band Range Extender DAP-1620 at the most opportune time. I work mostly in my bedroom after the kids go to bed at night, but with only one wireless router located at one far corner of my living room, the wireless signal in my bedroom is lousy. I have to settle with just one bar of signal, which virtually drives me nuts most of the time. The internet loads extremely slowly and I often get error messages in connectivity. It doesn’t help that in one small bedroom, there are at least 4 devices that connects to the network at any one time – The hubby and my mobile phones as well as our laptops. My house is not even big – It’s a regular HDB four-room flat! I don’t think I need to elaborate on the frustrations we feel every single night.

What the D-Link Wireless Range Extender does is to, as its name suggests, extend the wireless network’s range so that the signals are stronger over a longer distance. By plugging in the device at the mid-way point between my router and my bedroom, the wireless network became much stronger so that every device can connect easily to a strong network, as if we are all in the living room right in front of the router!

Like I mentioned at the beginning, I am not a techie guru and with so many other experts out there, I shall spare you from the technical details of the Wireless Range Extender (If you are interested, you can read about it here). From a user point of view, there are 3 features I like about the D-Link Wireless AC1200 Dual Band Range Extender DAP-1620:

1. COMPACT Design

I love it that the device is so compact and sleek that it just blends seamlessly into the design of the house without sticking out like a sore thumb. It doesn’t take up much space yet delivers results well. Perfect!

The device comes with bright signal Indicator LED, indicating the strength of the signal received from the router. This definitely helps to locate the best position for the range extender to be plugged in for the best results. No complicated designs requiring complicated minds!

2. It is SUPER EASY To Install
I cannot tell you how silly I felt when I procrastinated a month to install the device only to realize how super easy it is. I have a phobia for anything technically complicated, so I hesitated for a long while before finally plucking up the courage to open up the packaging. It turned out to be much simpler than I thought. All I needed to do was to plug it into the socket and press a button on it for the lights to come on. Then I press the WPS button on the router and let the two devices connect on their own! Can it get any easier than this?

3. It WORKS!
Well, the best part about this device is how well and fast it works. The moment it was installed, the signal strength on my mobile phone immediately went up by 2 bars! Working in the comfort of my bedroom is no longer frustrating for me now! All my devices now get the speed and coverage they needs for optimal performance, and I get my work done quickly and efficiently. Oh yes, watching online movies has become an extremely enjoyable experience for me too – No more spooling! =D
If you are encountering similar problems with your wireless network at home or in the office just like me, consider the D-Link Wireless AC1200 Dual Band Range Extender DAP-1620 – Get the good network and connectivity that you deserve!
