I am a huge fan of Cirque du Soleil productions. I’ve watched three so far, and each one supersedes the previous, in my opinion. The big yellow and blue top has become an icon of excitement and exhilaration after its first appearance next to Marina Bay Sands years ago.
This year’s production – KOOZA – is the best one yet! The name KOOZA is inspired by the Sanskrit word "Koza" which means "box", "chest", or "treasure" and emerging from this magical box is an international cast of 50 acrobats, musicians, singers and actors from 19 different countries! Apart from the amazing acrobatic acts and heart-stopping stunts mostly high up in the mid-air, I was blown away by the clever use of lights, beautiful stage setup, elaborate costumes and superb live music and singing. Now, if you are still wondering if you should go catch KOOZA, after seeing the flooding of KOOZA photographs and raving comments on your social media feeds, here’s a checklist for you – If you tick more than 2 out of this list of 4 things, hesitate no more and go book your tickets right away.
1. You Need A Good Laugh
I think everyone deserves to let their hair down and have a good laugh every now and then. Life’s way too stressful if we cannot even do that! Cirque de Soleil KOOZA may be packed with highly dangerous acrobatic acts, the insertion of clown antics and entertaining moments that sometimes involved the audience would make you laugh all your troubles away. And trust me, you will feel a whole lot better after all that laughing.
2. You Need Some Excitement In Your Life
Much as we hate to admit it, life gets monotonous… pretty often. We all need something to jazz up our lives and get our hearts pumping. That would certainly happen at KOOZA because be prepared to sit at the edge of your seats (just remember to breathe) when the acrobats attempt highly-dangerous acts and stunts. Throughout the show, there would be people screaming, gasping and letting out shrieks because it was just too exciting to watch in silence!
3. You Need To Be Inspired
I don’t know about you, but I get immensely inspired when I watch a performance like KOOZA. Behind the seemingly glamourous acts that received roaring clapping from the audience, every performer has put in years and years of tough training to get to where they are today. A few minutes on stage is a result of them sacrificing their youth and life to perfect every move because there is no room for mistakes at all – Their lives are at stake. So after every successful performance by the acrobats, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of admiration for their tenacity and perseverance. Comparing to these people, I’ve had a much easier life and really have no reason to complain about anything at all.
4. You Need A Night Out
Don’t we all do? Dinner and catching KOOZA sounds like a perfect night out with your spouse or happy friends, for sure! The show is guaranteed to entertain you for that couple of hours, and you will leave feeling refreshed and ready to take on another day of challenges again. Having said that, KOOZA is a very family-friendly show as well, so if you are thinking of making it a family bonding outing, it totally works too. Sitting behind me during the show was a family with two young kids and they were high-strung, screaming and cheering throughout the whole show! I imagine every kid who steps in would be totally amazed and very entertained by everything the show can offer. A word of caution though – The music can get a little loud at times, and there are several points in the show when it gets all dark, so if you have young children, it’s best to prep them beforehand.
