On my last trip to Bangkok about three years ago, I visited the Rod Fai Night Market Ratchada, which is a spin-off from the original Rod Fai Night Market Srinakarin. I liked that market though it was a little small, so this time round, I was glad to be able to visit the original Rod Fai night market and I super love the place! It’s huge – Food, clothes, accessories, vintage cars, vintage furniture & furnishing, and even helicopters on display! It may be a little far from the usual spots, but it’s absolutely worth the time.
Image from Shutterstock, not mine. ‘Cos unless I am sitting in a helicopter, there’s no way I can take a photo like this. =P
We alighted where the food market starts and that totally distracted us from all the shopping.
Finally got to try this authentic Thai street food – Salt-grilled fish! I don’t have the courage to try those along the roadside, but this was inside the night market and the very friendly stall-owner made sure our big group got tables and seats. It was good! Flesh was firm, lightly salted and very sweet and fresh!
Take your time to walk through the different shops here after filling your tummies because they sell anything from clothes to accessories, stationeries, snacks, home furnishings! I would like to think of this place as a miniature night version of Chatuchak – Happy shopping!
Beers and ciders are cheap here too. My rose cider cost only S$2.
The extreme end of the market is a section full of shops selling all kinds of vintage furniture, home furnishings and decorations. You can also find vintage fashion here – The husband found a vintage Adidas cap made in Korea here at only S$10!
Wish I can lug everything home, but too bad. That petrol kiosk would fit into my living room. =P
Apart from the vintage shops, there are also pubs here with live performers, so you can totally chill your night away here with your friends. We had so much fun that night – No agenda, not rushing anywhere and just enjoying the coolness of the night. =D
Cheers to Rod Fai Night Market – I’ll be back again for sure!
