ION Sky

Have you been up to ION Sky before?

Because of a media event, I went to ION Sky some time back, and fell in love with that place immediately. Located on Level 56 of ION Building, ION Sky is home to Salt Grill & Sky Bar, as well as a huge function hall where events are held at. Apart from the really beautiful views from way up there, what I love about the space is how peaceful it is.

Simple post today - Just sharing some views of Orchard Road that can be seen from ION Sky. These are shot through the windows, so some reflections can be seen. :)

Pasar Bella

I happened to be at The Grandstand (Formerly known as Turf City) for a blogging assignment last weekend, so I took the opportunity to have a quick walk through the Pasar Bella. From some of the blogs I read, it sounded like a place I would like, and I really did!

image

It might be the closest to Perth's Fremantle Weekend Market I could find here in Singapore. Brought back so much holiday memories just walking through the market. :) Pasar Bella calls itself the first wholesome market in Singapore, and you can really find all kinds of stuffs selling at the market, from fresh produce to home furnishings and delicacies such as cakes, pastries, tarts, etc. You can also chill and relax at one of the cafes there. Basically, the whole market is filled with the aroma of coffee - And that's probably why I liked it!

This fish stall in particular, reminded me of Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo, haha!

Love the energy in the place - Everyone seemed to be having a good time.

Paella on large flat pans looked very appetizing indeed.

A lovely & colourful shop with bunting and selling the cutest things!

I suddenly miss Australia all over again!

Love everything in this popup store.

I'd love to browse the items in this shop, but too bad it was closed for stock-checking. Everything looked wonderful and pretty, they should all be in my kitchen!

Also passed by a cute kids' salon.

And there was a stall that sold balloons in every colour, design and pattern.

Pasar Bella is such a colourful market, I'd love to visit it again soon! And this time, I'll stop for a cup of coffee and just soak myself in the whole bustling and vibrant atmosphere. :)

What's In My Bag?

When the kids were still babies, 90% of the stuffs inside my bag belong to them - Diapers, wet wipes, milk powder, milk bottles, extra clothes, wipe cloths (you get the idea). I'd at most have my wallet & mobile phone in it, that's all. But ever since I've escaped from the clutches of babyhood, my bag has reverted to its original state and purpose (Thank goodness!).

Being a naturally messy person, my bag totally portrays who am I as a person. Today, I am going to show you what's inside my bag. It will be my first time ever doing this on my blog. Hyperventilate.

First, my bag. This is my current everyday bag from Forever 21. My bag's always big and spacious because I have lots of nonsense to bring everyday. Which probably explains why I am growing shorter and shorter by the day - My bag is grossly overweight.

And these can be found inside every single day. Plus a laptop & my Samsung Note II.
Picture1

a. Adidas Jacket
b. G15 Camera - I seldom leave home without my camera
c. Wallet
d. Handiplast - for all those little cuts & blisters
e. Wires pouch for all the laptop adaptor, HP charger, mouse etc
f. Vouchers - Who knows when I'll pass by anyone of those shops & need to buy something, right??
g. Keys pouch
h. Mini photo album (with no photos inside :P)
i. Earphones pouch
j. Clear folder with my events calendar & other printouts (Too many events & blogging deadlines confuse me sometimes, so this is necessary)
k. Pilot blue pen
Not in picture: Random receipts, strips of unwanted paper etc. =P

This is of course the version of my bag during weekdays when I go to work. Come weekends, you'll find diapers & extra clothes for the kids in it as well. Ironically, while I am a person who loves sweets & titbits, you won't any of those in my bag. I don't understand why either.

What's in your bag?? :)

Singapore Memory Project: A Nostalgic Walk

On Saturday that just passed, I did my very first photo walk under the Singapore Memory Project (SMP). This is a nationwide movement which aims to capture and document precious moments and memories related to Singapore; recollections not merely from individual Singaporeans, but also organisations, associations, companies and groups. I feel that this is such a meaningful project and am glad to be a part of it. The photo walk was led by famous street photographer, Aik Beng Chia (commonly known as 'ABC'), and I love what he said during the introduction before the walk commenced. He said that  a photograph we capture now may not seem that interesting or significant, but ten, twenty or fifty years down the road, it will be an important piece of history of Singapore. Totally agree!

A group of about 10-12 instagramers joined the photo walk, and ABC brought us on a three-hour walk round Chinatown, sharing with us bits and pieces of history, and also showing us interesting spots & subjects to talk photographs. We took instagrams and photographs with our cameras along the way. By the way, if you have captured any interesting photos of Singapore on instagram, you can also hashtag #sgmemory, and all the photographs would go towards the archive for the Singapore Memory Project.

The sun was merciless, but it was definitely the perfect weather for photo walks with abundant sunlight.

I really like ABC. He's humorous, down-to-earth and very approachable.

Baby Jayne came along too. Everything in Chinatown is a piece of vintage to her. :D

We popped by the Library @ Chinatown (I didn't even know there's a library in Chinatown Point!) for the Singapore Memory Project exhibition. The exhibition is at every library in Singapore and each one showcases the memories of the residents in those areas. Pretty interesting!

The biscuit tin that we are all so familiar with!!!!

We were all enjoying the cool air-conditioning at the library, a reprieve from the merciless sun. :)

There're fun activities for the kids to do too at the exhibition. They can collect stamps of some of the familiar icons in Singapore - the dragon playground and the Courtesy Lion, for example. Not that Jayne could recognise any of them though. :P

Back to be under the sun again after checking out the exhibition, and ABC got some of us to do a layering pose like this. So cute!

Baby Jayne wanted to be carried most of the time, understandably so. It's not easy for a young kid to be walking for 3 hours in the hot sun! But she's such a sweetheart - she hardly complained.

ABC brought us to this interesting hotel which was a refurbished Chinese Opera House!

I've seen many of such sets in drama serials, but never been inside one myself. It was such a gorgeous place! Just imagine the hotel lobby to be where the stage used to be, and all the customers would be drinking tea and watching the Chinese opera performance from the circumference at all levels. Really awesome hotel with a rich history.

We walked through a back alley and found lots of such long ladders that led up to doors located high up at the 2nd or 3rd storey. Shortcut out of the house?

ABC brought us to visit 3 of the barbers still in operation at the back alleys. He has taken photographs of them so often that he's become friends with them. One did not open for business that day, another probably went to the toilet or was having lunch, and the third one had a customer, so we were told not to take any photographs. I witnessed the mutual respect and friendship between a street photographer and his 'subjects'. Nice.

Other trades we passed by along the way - Garung Guni station...

Bicycle repair Uncle

Funny Tour guide. =P

One of our final stops was at the last standing well in Singapore, covered up for safety of course. Tried explaining to Jayne what a well is used for, but she didn't seem to understand fully why people didn't use taps then. =X Well, never mind I guess.

Other photographs I shot that day! I love street photography - so much fun and so many stories to be captured! My instagram handle is klessislee by the way, if you wanna follow me! :)

Looking forward to my next photo walk! It's addictive, I say! :)
