My kids follow me everywhere I go.
Some people think they are very poor things because they sometimes have to stay out late and are so tired by the time we reach home. But I happen to think that as long as I don’t do that every single day of a week, there’s no real harm done and I actually prefer to have my kids with me so that I get to spend time with them.
My weekly schedule can be crazy and if I do not make use of such moments to spend time with them, I might not be able to have a decent conversation with them in one week. Furthermore, I always hold the thinking that children are their happiest as long as they are by their parents’ side.
Tuesday nights are leader meeting nights. On some weeks, we send Joey home to my mum-in-law before the meeting so that she gets to sleep at her usual bedtime (10pm) and won’t be so tired the next day.
On some weeks, we bring her along with us like yesterday night, and while she only managed to sleep at close to 12 midnight, I had a good time fellowshipping with her. She is such a funny person to talk to, and if you have not had the chance to do so, I strongly urge you to try it one day. You’ll be amazed at how interesting it gets.
She told me about her new best friend in school (she rotates among a few fav friends), sings me the new songs she learnt in school and how one of her classmates was caught talking in class during story-telling and her teacher sent him to the Naughty Chair. =P
Joey is a lot more IT-savvy now. To keep her occupied while Papa Isaiah attends his meeting, I just need to switch on my laptop and go to one of the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse websites. She would entertain herself by navigating around, playing the games and activities etc.
Baby Jayne sleeps at 830pm every night, and by the time the meeting commences, she would be all drowsy. Although it’s much harder for her to fall asleep in a stroller or in an unfamiliar environment, she dozes off now and then, and takes small naps along the way.
Joey and I ended up playing a lot of little games last night while waiting. She’s good at devising new and creative games. For example, she would pull 2 or 3 chairs and make me sit in one of the chairs, while she takes the first chair. Then she would announce that we are on a train, and she’s the captain. Then she would ask me where I was going. It was fun until she repeated the same questions and actions for the 10th time.
She also did some impersonation which got me laughing non-stop. She’s really good at imitating how my mum-in-law talks, or how her teacher scolds the naughty children in class. She repeats what they say word for word, with exactly the same expressions and tone. She’s so cut out to be a Hollywood star.
While it’s tiring (physically, mentally and emotionally!) to lug my kids everywhere I go, I do enjoy their company most of the time. It is wonderful to have them by my side all the time. =)
