And the best place to do so is of course Chinatown. =)
I actually like visiting Chinatown during the mid-autumn festival season rather than the Lunar New Year because the crowds’ not so terrible that you feel suffocated or can’t even walk. It’s rowdy yet not overbearing. There’s a happy mood in the air and it’s so cheena that I absolutely love it!
Before we embarked on our long walk, we decided to have some sweet desserts first. Some sugar rush much needed!
My girls are typical girls who love sweet stuffs. =D Look how excited they were waiting for their orders to come.
We love to bring kids for trips like this that allows them to learn about culture and see interesting sights, and allows us to take photographs at the same time. Kills two birds with one stone!
Yummy yam cake with fragrant sesame seeds!
Joey and her all-time favourite black sesame paste (and stained lips are inevitable).
Look at my dessert! It’s chendol done in snow ice style! Very awesome.
And we started. I love strolling along the streets of Chinatown because it’s always packed with bold colours. Totally great for photography. Love the strong culture in this place too of course.
Pasar malam stalls selling many similar items, mostly to earn tourist dollars. For us, it’s good window shopping!
Thank God for cooperative girls. =)
Don’t you just love walking through such markets? As long as it doesn’t get too crowded, it makes for a very satisfying shopping experience, I say!
Lots of old folks were gathered at a centre pavilion area, playing chinese chess. There was a mid-autumn festival special performance scheduled for that evening, so it was especially crowded with people waiting for the performance to start.
Baby Jayne had the best view… and freshest air. =D
Love this photo of my girl sipping cold Yakult after a warm walk through the crowds. =)
When night falls and the lighted lanterns could be seen everywhere, it’s a different mood created all of a sudden. Very heart-warming somehow. The mid-autumn festive depicts having families coming together for a time of gathering and reunion by the way. =)
The girls were exhausted from the long walk, but happy nevertheless. And they definitely left with a deeper impression and appreciation for the mid-autumn festival. Definitely something I wanted to achieve.
Saw this exhibition area just outside the Chinatown MRT station, where different kids’ artwork on paper lanterns were displayed. Really pretty! =)
Have you soaked yourself into the mid-autumn festival mood yet? =)
