Get Fit With The Moving Body! (+ A Family Package Giveaway!)

Sponsored Review

I’m a really lazy person when it comes to getting fit. The husband goes for his regular gym sessions and the girls have their regular PE lessons in school. Me? NOTHING. The only exercise I do is to walk to Jayne’s school and fetch her home everyday. I attribute it to good genes that I’ve not morphed into an unsalvageable fat old woman by now, given the diet I have. And there is yet, hope. I saw a glimpse of light when I was approached by The Moving Body to review their new pilates & family fitness program. It might also be God telling me it’s payback time. Either way, we happily trotted down to one of their fitness centres, Pilates Inc. for a private session last week. It totally did my body good. And I’m seriously considering doing this for the long term.

In conjunction with the school holidays, Pilates Inc. is offering The ‘School’s Out’ program suitable for the whole family, until 31 Dec 2013. This program’s perfect because it combines fitness and fun with quality family time. Not only can everyone in the family get fitter in the process, this program also draws the family closer together. More details about the program cost at the end of this post. For now, let me share our experience. I’m not exaggerating – IT WAS SUPER DUPER FUN.

Of course, the never-exercise-orbeegood me suffered from a bout of muscle aches the day after. But seriously, the whole workout totally loosened the muscles on my entire body. And that felt really good.

Meet our macho personal trainer, Kelvin –  He was patient, friendly and very good with kids, as he has 2 kids himself. I was very glad it was a private session for our family - It would be too embarrassing for others to know that I have difficulties completing even the easiest moves. Well, I can always improve and get better!

Before we got started with the exercises, our trainer did some simple explanation about the body and how our daily postures and walking styles will affect how it grows. Most of our postures are incorrect, thus causing aches on the back, neck and shoulders etc. When the way we stand and sit are incorrect, we also get tired easier because the body is trying to hold more pressure and weight due to the incorrect postures. It is best to teach the kids the correct postures from young so that they won’t need to unlearn in the later parts of their lives.

We were led through a series of simple exercises, but it was fun because my kids were monkeying around, asking lots of questions and just having fun. :P Their bodies are so flexible that they have no problems doing any of the poses or balancing exercises! *unlike me*

Jayne might not be old enough to fully enjoy the benefits of the class, but the most important thing to me is that she was having fun – loads of fun in fact!

Then we got a chance to do the exercises in pairs – the kids help by sitting on our abdominal muscles while we apply pressure to push the muscles outwards. Good training for the abs!

Then in order to teach the kids this concept of stomach muscles, the instructor told us to press a small ball on their abdomen. Not sure whether they understood but they sure thought it was funny and couldn’t stop laughing.

The exercises got more and more challenging, but I was really glad to feel my muscles being worked out. They needed that badly.

The last part of our one-hour class was more interactive. We threw balls to each other, jumped over each other and basically giggled a lot. The instructor must think we are such a giggly family. =X

Cool-down was bittersweet. My abs were groaning but it was a pity the fun class was coming to an end. One hour whisked by really quickly!

Thank you for a fun class, Trainer Kelvin!
