School Holidays Special: Our Top 5 Playgrounds In Singapore

The March school holidays are coming in 2 weeks’ time! Though it’s only a week of break from school, the kids are looking forward to it nevertheless. I always believe in planning ahead of time – If we fail to plan, we plan to fail! Before we know it, the school holidays’ over, and life goes back to the usual (boring) routine. I am determined not to let the school holidays pass us by without fully enjoying it, so starting from today, I am doing a two-week School Holidays Special series on places that we can visit with our kids as well as activities we can include into our schedule this upcoming school holidays!

My kids love playgrounds, whether indoor or outdoors. If you ask me, I’d choose an indoor playground anytime (because of the air-conditioning of course), but they are not cheap, so we usually end up at some outdoor playgrounds most of the time. It might be a better choice too because the kids get lots of fresh air and sunlight, and even if they sweat buckets, I don’t need to worry about them catching a chill in an air-conditioned place. Today, I share my list of Top 5 Playgrounds In Singapore – All are our favorites and absolutely FREE-OF-CHARGE.

1. Sembawang Park Battleship Playground

This newly-renovated playground is located at Sembawang Park. Expect lots of climbing, crawling, sliding and swinging. I love how sturdy the entire structure looks and how it encourages the kids to hone their motor skills at various points.

One of the best things about an outdoor playground is the sand pit. Although some playgrounds are not as well-maintained as it should be and the sand may not be very clean, it is still a vital part of a fun playground in my opinion. Sadly, most modern playgrounds are now built without the sand element.

This was one of the most popular features of this playground – Many kids were waiting to get on it! Mega swing – Who doesn’t love?

To get there: Alight at Sembawang MRT station, take bus 882 from at Sembawang Bus Interchange.

2. Tiong Bahru Park Playground

This is by far, the most eye-catchy playground I’ve seen in Singapore. In fact, the reason why we even visited this playground was because we saw it while passing by it in a bus. It looked too fun to be missed!

Again, lots of climbing and balancing skills required at this playground. This is less challenging compared to the one at Sembawang Park, so younger kids will not have a problem at all.

They even have a mini maze and check out the super retro merry-go-round in the background – LOVE IT! That was a memorable part of my childhood. :)

To get there: Alight at Tiong Bahru MRT station and walk over.

3. West Coast Park Playground

This park has not just one playground – It’s got a conglomerate of playgrounds! Apart from the ‘spider web’ structures, they have the usual slides, swings, see-saw and even mini flying fox (My fav!)

Another wonderful thing about visiting the West Coast Park playground is that you can end off the outing with a treat at Mc’Donalds – Bound to score lots of points with your kiddos! :P

To get there: Alight at Clementi MRT Station and take Bus 175 from Clementi Bus Interchange.

4. Gardens by the Bay FEO Children’s Garden

The newly-opened FEO Children’s Garden is a hit among the kids! Not only is it extensive with many different sections to play at, it also offers both dry and wet playgrounds all in one place. It’s unbelievable that it’s absolutely free!

There are many things to love at the Children’s Garden – the suspension bridge, treehouse, slides and splashing water.

You need to devote at least half a day to enjoy the Children’s Garden. If your kids have not been there before, you absolutely should bring them this March school holidays.

To get there: Alight at Bayfront MRT Station and exit via Exit B. Follow the underground linkway to Gardens by the Bay via the Dragonfly Bridge.

5. Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden

We love the Botanic Gardens. Lots of open spaces for the kids to run and play, coupled with fresh air and sunlight. But what thrills the kids most about Botanic Gardens is the Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden. The main attraction in there is the amazing Treehouse of course! Every kid dreams of owning a treehouse in their backyard, and if I can build one for my kids, it may look very much like the one at Jacob Ballas. Haha!

And check out that stylo slide – the kids would go on it again and again. Can’t really blame them, right?

When the weather gets to hot, just let your kids jump into their water playground! Looks like we do have many options where both dry and wet playgrounds are available!
