Barbie® Iron-On Style™ (Giveaway!)

Product Review

There are some things in life that can withstand the test of time, and Barbie dolls are one of those things.

I received my first Barbie doll from my dad on my 5th birthday, and since then I’ve got several Barbie dolls added to my collection, so Barbie dolls were a big part of my childhood. The Barbie doll that left the deepest impression on me though was given to me by a male classmate when I was in Primary Three. Yes, I was still crazy over Barbie dolls then, and obviously, this guy had a crush on me then. Nope, I’m not in contact with him anymore, obviously.

I did not make any conscientious attempt to turn my girls into Barbie fans; They just grew to be. I can hardly blame them right? Barbie has the prettiest face ever. And with all the dressing up and accessorizing, it’s hard not to love playing with it. As a kid, my dream was to own the Barbie bungalow house with its garden and swimming pool. Barbie and her friends (and Ken of course) would be having poolside parties and having a good time together. After the party, they would drive out in their convertible for even more fun. My parents didn’t indulge me in those whims and fancies then, but isn’t that the fun part about Barbie dolls? – We can let our imagination and creativity run wild with them!

Recently, Barbie sent over their latest Iron-On Style Barbie dolls for my girls to fiddle with – They were of course very thrilled. The courier guy who delivered the dolls over was probably very amused at their over-dramatic reactions. I had deliberately kept it a secret from them as a surprise, so you can imagine their delight when they saw it. =D

Now, what is this Iron-On style Barbie doll set? It’s actually a customizable Barbie doll set where the kids can decide what designs should go on Barbie’s clothes by choosing from a series of decals provided in the set. After choosing their designs, it is a matter of ‘pressing’ them onto the clothes using the ‘iron’. Of course, don’t worry about heat coming from the iron because it’s not a real one of course. The decals are easily transferred onto Barbie’s clothes by pressing on them firmly. The ‘iron’ is the tool used by the kids to press on the designs. To them, it’s exactly like ironing! Except, this iron is super safe. :)

When I saw this product, I was impressed. Everyone loves customization – We all want to own something that’s unique and special, and cannot be found anywhere else. This Iron-On Barbie set allows the kids to demonstrate their creativity and decide what they want their Barbie dolls to wear! That’s certainly adding a new dimension to Barbie doll playing – I absolutely like the idea!

And so Jayne got started on her Iron-On Barbie one of the days last week because she was a little unwell and had to stay at home to rest. This set is suitable for kids 5 years old and above, and since Jayne is just turning 5, I was wondering if she would be able to play on her own. Thankfully, she was able to do everything herself after I showed her once! :)

Here’s the full set of items found inside the Iron-On Barbie set: 3 tops, 2 skirts, 1 jacket, 1 pair of heels, ironing board, iron, 3 sheets of over 30 decals and a Barbie doll.

It’s easy to play – Just choose your decal and cut it out (better for parents to help with the cutting out if your kid is young), place it on the right position on the clothes, and press hard with the iron. Jayne got the hang of it very fast.

And this was the first top that she completed designing!

Another thing I like about this Barbie doll is that she can be easily adjusted to standing, sitting or kneeling position because there are connecting parts at the knee area. And look at Barbie’s face – The makeup’s perfect! Such a pretty face, really. :)

Jayne’s in a phase now where she imagines many things. In her wide world of imagination, she is a manager at a fashion show that she runs every week. At the fashion show, she takes care of many models who wears pretty clothes and walks the catwalk on the stage. Every piece of clothing she designed for her Barbie doll gets paraded at her fashion show, and every one of them was popular and well-received by the audience. Don’t underestimate her imagination – There are many intricate details at her fashion show – Not haphazard at all.

Presenting her complete set of Iron-On Barbie fashion line!

Now, Jayne is not just the manager for the fashion show in her imaginative world, she is also the master designer! Thanks to Barbie for this creation - It creates more room for kids to enhance their creativity while having fun.
