The Three Little Pigs (Review by Joey)

The Three Little Pigs may be a familiar story to many of us, but Singapore Repertory Theatre’s The Little Company has successfully given it a funny twist and added lovely music and songs throughout the production. I can only say that the kids came out of the show all beaming from ear to ear. They loved it! Even for my 10-year-old Joey who was initially skeptical about how interesting such a familiar story would be and whether they are just for very young kids, looked quite the impressed after watching it!

And so, what better way to give an honest review of a kid’s musical performance than asking the kids themselves??! After all, they are the primary reason why parents would bring them to the theatre to catch it! So, here’s 10-year-old Joey’s review of The Three Little Pigs – unedited version:

“At first I thought that the 3 little pigs will be like the original story but as always SRT turned this classical story into a world of  music and fun. I was there with Chernise, Auntie Claire and Jayne. It was a wonderful experience and I thought that all the songs from the show were soo amusing to listen to and the dance moves were very fun to watch. The three little pigs were dressed with cute features on their pig costumes and their names were downright cute!!! Char, Siew and  Bao were the pig’s names. I thought that that was very clever of them as the children laughed and had a great time during the show. The big bad wolf was super furry and very funny to watch as he looked for the 3 little pigs even though they were right behind him. I personally think that this is by far the best show SRT has done. I hope that  you can find some time to watch this 1  hour show with your family and friends. And do not forget to check out SRT’s newest show that is available for booking now. Hope you enjoy the show!  :)”

How’s that for a potential next-hot-blogger-on-the-block? =D

The two younger kids who watched the show together with Joey both came out of the theatre, laughing and talking about the funny bits in the show. I took that as a big thumbs-up from them! In fact, the part which tickled them the most was the names of the three little pigs which read ‘Char Siew Bao’ together – and that’s one of Chernise’s favorite buns – Haha! (She told me that herself after the show!)

I’ve personally watched several of SRT’s shows and every one of them was great with positive values conveyed to the kids in the audience, catchy tunes, colorful props and funny script. While we may not have that many shows available in Singapore for kids, I am glad that Singapore Repertoire Theatre has been producing many productions year after year for our young audiences, which are definitely better alternatives to junk TV programmes. Let’s continue to support local productions, and keep up the good work, SRT! =)
