It’s an open secret by now – I LOVE SENTOSA. I mean, it’s a mere few minutes away from mainland Singapore but the vibes and atmosphere there just scream ‘Vacation!’, so I always feel happy to be on Sentosa Island. And speaking of that, I love it when I get to stay overnight on Sentosa so that I don’t have to rush through visiting the attractions and can enjoy leisurely night walks around Sentosa without having to rush for the last train ride home. My preferred choice of accommodation on Sentosa has always been Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa, and with their latest Family Fun Package, I really don’t see the reason why you are not booking your staycation yet. It’s almost an all-inclusive package, which means you don’t need to fork out much more money for additional things during the staycation! I know a good deal when I see one. =P
Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa’s Family Fun Package includes the following:
So, we had a great family time at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa some weeks back. It was our second staycation there and it felt even better this time round because we were familiar with the surroundings, hotel facilities and one of the Kids’ Club staff even recognized my kids! Needless to say, we felt right at home and had a most wonderful weekend there.
The Room
Perhaps one of the best things I love about staying at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa is having a cosy and comfortable room to rest in, while taking in the beautiful and glorious views out from the balcony.
There was a two-seated sofa bed in the room, so the lovely Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa folks prepared that as the bed for my girls. It’s perfect for a family of four, as you can see. My kids were just elated - In fact, their bed looks bigger than ours! =P
Our Deluxe Pool View room overlooks the swimming pool bustling with activities and the glorious blue sky and sea in the distance. This is what a vacation should be like – Relaxing and rejuvenating for the mind, body and soul.
I love how spacious the room was – It made me feel like staying in the hotel room all day long. And really, it’s OK if I want to do that – Real holidays are meant for chilling the day away doing nothing much, in my opinion.
Toots Club
The kids probably won’t agree with me because of what Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa offers – They have a fantastic Kids’ Club, which the kids talk about often after every staycation. I guess apart from the fabulous play structures, the staff played a big part as well, in engaging the kids and making it a memorable experience for them.
In case you are wondering if my 8yo was the only one who enjoyed the Kids’ Club facilities, I am glad to report that my 11yo loves it too. Obviously, the Club is able to cater to kids in different age groups pretty well.
A kids washroom is housed within the Kids’ Club – Not seen in many Kids’ Club I’ve been to – Thumbs up!
If your kids are toddlers and you worry if there is anything they can play in, there is a Mini Toots Club for those below 5 years old. This place is definitely safe for them without worrying about elder kids pushing or shoving them aside. Parents’ supervision is required though.
The best part about leaving your kids in the Kids’ Club is that their meals are also taken care of – Both lunch and dinner – so you can really go and enjoy a true holiday and have a leisurely meal without the need to urge your kids to eat faster every five minutes. Plus, the kids totally think it’s a cool idea to eat with their friends and they often eat more that way!
Additional entertainment facilities include the Games Room and the complimentary table tennis tables located right outside the Kids’ Club. The husband and I enjoyed a game or two here before we picked up the kids at the end of the day.
Swimming Pools With Slides
The swimming pools are definitely one of the highlights of Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa. There is a pool for everyone – Wading pool for the little ones, shallow pool for the not-so-confident young swimmers and a deeper pool for the adults, with a drinks bar too. Of course, the slides and water playgrounds are the main attraction for the kids, and they can spend their whole day playing there! Thankfully, the main pool with the slides is sheltered, so I don’t have to be concerned about the kids being under direct sunlight for too long. When it drizzles slightly, they can also continue to play in that pool, so all’s good.
This ‘running track’ set up by the staff got the kids really excited – They have to run along it, balancing themselves on the waters and try not to fall into the water before they reach the end of the trail. Everyone was laughing themselves silly, and my kids went many times!
Between the swimming pool and the beach, there is a grassy area for hanging out with little children.
The Beach
Take a short walk from the swimming pool and you will reach the ‘private’ beach of Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa. It’s technically not a private beach because it’s connected to the rest of the beach along Siloso Beach, but this is a really quiet stretch usually accessed by hotel guests only. I love it here – So tranquil and therapeutic, especially when I take a seat by the breakwaters and just watch the waves crash in.
Buffet Breakfast
One of the things that always end our staycation on a happy note is a great buffet breakfast and Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa’s breakfast offerings will totally satisfy your taste buds. I especially love it that they have a Kids’ Corner where food is served at their level and they can help themselves to kid-friendly breakfast options.
Perhaps one of the most interesting things about choosing to dine at the outdoor alfresco area during breakfast is meeting one of these inhabitants of Sentosa. Certainly made our breakfast more interesting that morning! :)
Bonus: Siloso Skywalk
If you’ve not been to this latest attraction on Sentosa, you ought to. It’s an extension of the former Fort Siloso (which has been revamped and reopened for FOC admission), and right next to Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa, so if you are staying at the hotel for a staycation, pop by for some fun and great views! The 11-storey, 181 meters long Skywalk trail provides guests a scenic trek among the treetops en route to Fort Siloso.
